Going off the season Steph is having so far it isn't too outlandish, Steph is on something we've never seen before BUT we have to see how it ends. He could have a cold streak that could lower his stats but if it continues he could end up having one of the GOAT peak seasons.
100% agree.

If he continues at this pace for the rest of the season and the playoffs - his peak will be better than Kobe's.

If this version of Curry was surrounded by similar players that Kobe had in 2007, and played 40+ minutes - he too would put up those numbers on better percentages.

:manny:
And if '06 Kobe was surrounded by his '09 team, who's to say he wouldn't shoot better and average the same points in less minutes?

There's no ifs about what Kobe did. Its concrete, in stone. That was stuff we've only seen from Wilt and MJ, and in some cases better.

That's why we use common sense here. Curry is putting up 30 ppg on 19 shots in 34 minutes - you have to measure what level he's playing at - not the end averages.

That's fine. If you want to try and extrapolate numbers, cool. It never works out that way in real life.

I still haven't seen anything that suggests to me that Steph is a better scorer than prime Kobe. Better shooter yes. Easily. But scoring, ie total points, no.

Why are people acting like efficiency isn't an important part of scoring?

Curry is putting up Kobe-ish averages in way less minutes and on way higher efficiency.

Curry's shooting ability, range, and efficiency make him just as deadly as any version of Kobe. 35 on 45% is not better than what Curry is doing.

Especially when you balance the fact that Curry is leading a historically great team and Kobe put his points up in a garbage team.

Lol at Kobe shutting down the best player like Nash didn't completely embarrass Kobe and the Lakers.

Midrange, shooting overall, passing, creating, facilitating, free throw shooting?

Kobe better at all those?
Kobe is better in the midrange but he's a bigger, taller player and took far, far more shots from there(46% of shots were from 10-23ft) than Steph(14% of shots from 10-23ft) does because of it.

The sheer number of 3's and the % made from that distance makes how they score nearly as different as Kobe vs Shaq.

It's not about extrapolating numbers, it's about the level he's playing at.

I don't know about being a better scorer, but he's definitely on the same level. My argument would be that Curry has more offensive impact than Kobe ever did.

Per 36 minutes:

Kobe in 2006
23.9 FGA
31.1 points

Curry this year
20.7 FGA
31.8 points

Kobe also took 3 more free throw attempts. So 3 more shots, 3 more free throws, and he still scored less...yet he's the better scorer somehow? Does not compute.
