Wasn't this guy a terrible leader or did I just hear wrong?

Can someone list out the "good" and the "bad" he has done..

Mugabe was an icon when he was a panafricanist socialist freedom fighter in the 1980's who led his country into a prosperous independence. Unfortunately, power corrupted him and he turned into a genocidal, murderous cleptocrat. A lot of people have problems coming to terms with his transformation over time and blame it on western media trying to paint him in a bad light, but it is what it is the movie the interpreter is basically telling the story of Robert Mugabe.

him and his peoples through mismanagement and corruption turned the bread basket of Africa into something worse than a crack den. did he cacs? yes he did, but how convenient was it that the crackdown on cacs started just when he realised he was losing power (lost votes on referendum that was to give him absolute ruling power in the mid-90s). after that vote, people realised they could actually win something after decades of rigged elections. the workers unions gained traction, nationwide strikes (the rise of tswangirayi: he was leader of workers union), in football/soccer stadiums people started singing anti-gvt and liberation struggle songs..oppossition parties smelled blood and once again rallied the people against the government. lives were lost. this man knowing he had lost the people, used the ol' ''we fought for this country'' and manipulated war veterans and young dumb nikkas into destroying farm land and taking over land (without official paperwork)..continuous violence against anyone who tried that ''freedom of speech'' and a hopelessly declining economy led to flight-of-talent.

the man died in a hospital abroad because he wanted a painless peaceful last days on this earth. you know why? maybe because he knew the actions of him and his peoples prevented the provision of basic healthcare in his own land. may he rest in peace.

From what I know he wasn't a good leader. Zimbabwe's economy tanked under his rule, and he and his wife especially were extraordinarily corrupt. He was spoiling her with first class shopping trips to Europe's most exclusive fashion and luxury goods stores while his people starved.

But on the other hand I have great respect for how he defied and stuck it to the man. He had no intention of complying with American and British demands, and we should all salute his resistance to imperialism

Mugabe was no Kwame Nkrumah or Thomas Sankara, that's for sure.

Economy tanked because of us sanctions. Get the facts together before you talk shyt

He died in Singapore which just sums it up for a lot of Zimbabweans, another leader who has to fly to foreign countries for treatment. The guy who orchestrated the coup is also being treated in India and has probably worked a few months because he keeps flying back and forth. Leaders can create institutions and ensure continuity ,Mugabe completely destroyed them in the quest for a Chinese style one party state which he tried and failed to institute in the 80s. Even the CCP learned from Mao's excesses while Mugabe learned nothing at all. There was a report after the coup which stated that he told Mbeki that he was surprised that the army did it to him because he had given them mines and land, instead of utilizing resources for the the betterment of the people he thought it wise to dole it out for political favors. He has also in the past told a finance minister that a country can never go bankrupt to justify prinitng money for unbudgeted expenses. Almost all state institutions are hollowed out because of his quest to stay in power. His sons pouring champagne on their rolex in South Africa and his attempt to make his wife succeed him made lots of people realize that he had lost his marbles. I have read accounts of the 80s campaign against ZAPU supporters and it is chilling, ripping pregnant women's bellies and bayoneting unborn kids. He called it moment of madness but that never stopped being the way his party operated in 2000, 2002 and 2008. Abductions, tortures and murders became synonymous with elections until the sham of 2008 made it impossible for them to continue on that path.

Yep because good leaders try to institute one party systems and destroy agriculture that was once called the breadbasket of Africa.

But he was anti-colonialism so he’s a god on the Coli

Mugabe along with many other Africans fought for African liberation.... he done a lot of good for Africans .....


Unfortunately he suffered from the disease that plagues African leaders by holdong onto power for too long
