First of all, this is at least the second time Silver has publicly said Seattle aint a lock, yet in a recent thread I made about the Thunder, mf's were all thru that bytch in their feelings about the return of the Sonics being a lock...

I agree with the brothers in here who are essentially telling nikkas to get over it----->Seattle wasn't the first city to lose it's major league team, and they won't be the last one. The only reason this board treats the Sonics as if they are some special case, is because the average age of this old ass user base, grew up in the 90s when the Sonics were good...

They not no different than any other city who had a team and eventually lost em, and here's a hard pill for nikkas to swallow: they may not ever come back. Keep hope alive I guess, but the memories of the Sonics will die with the people who were alive to witness them, the same as the memories of the countless cities who used to have teams, died with the people around to witness them. Nobody talks anout the Syracuse Nationals anymore because most the people who cared about em died decades ago...
first, sonic fans have absolutely no reason to let it go, its bullshyt. A local owner sold it to a guy who said he'd never move it, he held the city hostage for an arena, and then moved when he didn't get a gift of an upgraded arena. Its a modern owner grift.

that said though, There is a reason the Baltimore Ravens, The Cleveland Browns, Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Hornets, the Seattle Mariners, The Winnepeg Jets, the Minnesota Wild, The Minesota Timberwolves, the Houston Texans (I could go on and on) exist: after their predecessor teams left town, their fans never let it go and made it vocal they want a team.

This shyt matters, and the sonics fans are right to be vocal about it every time...demand drives attractiveness for a new / returning franchise.

Seattle is a basketball city. A Vegas expansion team will be pelicans status the minute they start losing
Seattle is a weird City these days. The Sonics are long gone.

It’s a beautiful place for the most part but I feel like there’s no black people there.

They got die hard sports fans, but I dunno what type of fans would show up for basketball. But they got the money for it so :manny:

Some of yall nights keep mentioning black people in the context of those who show up for the games. Do yall realize what percentage of those in the stands of NBA games that are actually black is less than 20%. Most fan bases 10-15%

Mexico City is safer then alot of American cities. Also Mexico is a top 15 GDP nation, and that's not counting the drug money.
I reiterate that Mexico is NOT developed enough to have an NBA team.

Also, NBA players would be walking licks in Mexico City. They would be the frequent targets of robberies. Also, most NBA players would NOT want to learn Spanish in order to live there.

A Mexico City NBA team would be illogical for so many reasons.

Mexico not developed enough to have an NBA team yet hosting the World Cup in multiple cities:jbhmm:

Mexico, which is 15 on the list of richest nations in the world. Above even Saudi Arabia:jbhmm:

Learn Spanish? Like MLB players have to learn English..oh that's right every MLB team has a translator on staff:stopitslime:

This is not the time to double down on ignorance. Google and a flight ticket are your friend

@DonB90

Economy =/= level of development.

Countries like Mexico, India, Brazil, etc may have higher ranking economies but they are still developing countries.

Montreal should get a team. Cool city. Diverse population. International feel. Close to Toronto and NYC
Absolutely not.

Vancouver getting back an NBA team would be first priority before somewhere like Montreal.

Also, the Raptors might push back on Canadian NBA expansion because they have propped themselves up as being "Canada's NBA team".

It's not about getting. It's about RETURNING an NBA team to Seattle. The Supersonics should never have left Seattle.

Also, an NBA team in Louisville (as you suggested earlier) wouldn't really make sense.

The Kings should've never left Kansas City. Louisville should've never lost their team. Baltimore had a NBA team and lost it, I don't see nobody crying for New Jersey to get a team back

Seattle ain't special. Tough titty

Louisville doesn't deserve a team but teams in smaller metros like New Orleans, Salt Lake City, Memphis ... make sense?

Teams in Milwaukee, Sacramento, OKC make sense?

Montreal has the better path though. They have ownership groups including the Canadiens ownership rumored to be interested. There isn’t anybody in Vancouver/British Columbia that has any reported interest. The Canucks are rumored to be sold, so maybe if someone with really big pockets buys them and the arena could be an option.

I mean, with the exception of Memphis and Oklahoma City, those cities have had NBA teams for over 40 years. New Orleans had the Jazz during the '70s.

Anyway, things were different back then. There was a different media landscape and cultural attitude about sports.

Absolutely yes. Vancouver has no basketball culture :unimpressed:

And Toronto has so much basketball talent to go around

Some American NBA players have issues with playing in Toronto (which culturally is barely different from Chicago or Buffalo).

Playing in Montreal/Quebec would be a no-go for many American NBA players. A Montreal NBA team is unlikely to happen (and especially not in place of Vancouver). That's not even factoring in the taxes and winter weather lol.

And the Kentucky Colonels in Louisville won the most games in the history of the ABA, in the 60s and 70s, in a city already crazy about basketball.
