All jokes aside, this is bad for console gamers. With Sony the only dog in the AAA console space, they can charge whatever for games and services, plus the quality will likely go down.

Microsoft really should sell Xbox, rather than scrapping the gaming division, which I think they’ll ultimately do.

What's a Xbox? That's a question people have to answer. What's the value of Xbox as a standalone brand without MS's money and 25 years of industry connects. The gen they won wasn't because of "Xbox". It was a combo of Sony launching late & costing more with worse online features, and MS straight up buying up whole games & exclusive dlc. Xbox money wasn't paying for that it was Windows & Office bankroll

Fast forward to today and everything to them is Gamepass, still not Xbox. They're not giving up on software so Gears, Halo etc all the studios they just bought stay. So no franchises and a fanbase that's pissed off at what Xbox was before you and won't really trust you coming in

"Xbox" is worthless as a brand. Better off to start from scratch and just license franchises from MS. I could see them trying to get anything back but I don't see any takers. The brand is cooked. Only these 2-3 weirdos on here are still arguing all other Xbox fans have gone home.

They still had to account for Xbox and Nintendo having the chance to bite into their market share, it kept them honest. They didn't want to end up like Nintendo did when Sega opened the can of worms.

I'm one of the Nintendo fans on here but if you really want to look at what a lack of competition does to the market, look at Nintendo in the NES era. They really were choking out third party developers and retailers. The games they played were ridiculous.

Now, 40 years later, if Sony's only competition in the console market is Nintendo (which markets primarily to younger/more casual segments anyways), they'll have nothing stopping them from introducing bullshyt that weakens the medium for everyone.

Based on rumors the pc won't just be a pc it will be sort of a console that's backwards compatible with all previous gen xbox games with a console ui so users can access xbox games they bought. Sony are petty enough to not want to put their exclusives on an xbox pc that resembles a console in interaction. Yet, I wouldn't be surprised they put them on there anyway assuming that console is niche and doesn't sell well. That could still could bother Sony though.
