Last time I was there the summers were very hot and the winters were super cold. It has good qualities outside of that and you can always take a weekend drive to the bay if you wanna explore

Maybe it's because I've spent so much time on the East Coast, but it's hilarious to me when people say Sac winters are "cold". I've never seen a low temp lower than 39 in Sac, and the high that day was like mid-50s. It really ain't that much different than The Bay or LA (in LA I think I saw a low of like 44 or 45 before)...

Now for sure it gets hotter in the summer...

Come down South or out here to various parts of the East Coast where it gets really cold and you'll change your mind lol...

I just moved to Natomas a few months ago. It ain't that bad considering I came from Fairfield.

No homeless people
Only seen the cops once
Everybody minding their business so far
Alot of bay area people in the area
10min Uber to downtown and the airport

I could see myself in Natomas when they finally get the light rail out that way, that shyt gonna ramp development up even more...

I'm here in Sac. My rent has been low (805 plus 25 for utilities monthly) since 2012. I wanted to move to Charlotte, but this news probably locks me here for the foreseeable future. All these condos around me are being sold for around 200k, so I've been thinking the owner might sell soon. Hope not

Charlotte would be a good look, I lived there in 2013-14. I loved it, you'll instantly notice just the amount of black success at various levels and in various fields when you get there. That is beautiful to see coming from Sacramento...

It's really comparable to Sacramento from an amenity standpoint, lotta the same type of shyt, with the only major exception being the concentration of events specially catered to blacks. It's a wonderful place to live if you are black---->all other things are about equal. Cost of living is cheaper in Charlotte, and you'll notice how popular it is to pretty much everywhere because it's the main city in The Carolinas, whereas Sac is right up the road from a more populous area...

I'm in Raleigh right now, which is where my BM is from, we came here in May from Virginia Beach. She hates Charlotte and I couldn't sell her on a move there. And ultimately, I'll end up back here, back in The Beach or Charlotte, when I come back from Sac in '21 or so, because my daughters are out here. Raleigh is kinda wack, so definitely if you were thinking a move to Carolina, Charlotte is the move!

But i encourage all black Sacramentans to try to stay invested in Sacramento before the movement of pushing us away begins like it did in The Bay. We still have that opportunity!

Why aren't you thinking about buying and house hacking?

Yeah it’s a thing of context we of course don’t experience snow, but the 10 years I was there the winters got progressively colder and colder for what we were typically used to

I got a friend in VA he always tells me how cold it is out there and it snows sometimes, he laughs when I complain about shivering in the 50s lol

The future of California for blacks may run through Sacramento, I said it before...

Most of us are renters, and not having ownership is a whole other problem plaguing blacks coast to coast, but at least taking measures to ensure we aren't just running (black) renters away because of unsustainable and unaffordable rent hikes, at least this is a starting point...

So because Sacramento is protecting older renters, it’s a safe haven for blacks?

You’re making it sound like we’re all poor & cant rent/buy anything other than old shyt

That's not what I said...

https://www.sacbee.com/news/business/real-estate-news/article147492709.html

Only 27% of Black Sacramento owns the home in which they live. So, from starting point, understanding that most of Black Sac rents, the new rent control is protecting the vast majority of Black Sac...

The other part of this is why so few of us own where we live, which is a multifaceted issue, but again, that's a different topic. Protecting the renters means you're protecting much if Black Sacramento. I thought my perspective was pretty cut and dry...

Black homeownership rates are lower than other races coast to coast, it isn't just a Sac problem. Rising cost of living without accompanying rise in wages is a coast to coast issue, not just Sac. Lack of rent control is a national problem, not just Sac...

I was just speaking on this one thing and how it will benefit Black Sac...

Better than Toronto. Rent control can't go higher than inflation which is 1.8%. A giant FU to landlords.

Wish this was a national trend

But I doubt it

Everybody is COHABITATING these days

So glad that I grew up in a era where it was common for a twenty something year old to have his own decent bachelor pad

:ahh: the 90s

Blame overpopulation and greed from landlords :ld:

Rent control could in theory lead to inflated rents. New tenants have to pay much higher rents as landlords become afraid of having career tenants. Let's not forget that it leads to less developments that focus primarily on rentals. This limits the supply of rental units driving rents way up. If the poor are paying way below this market value then landlords find ways to kick you out (i.e. major reno, moving in to the unit, etc.).

Sacramento never gets love compared to other major California cities because it’s typically always been a backwoods shyt hole with strip malls and a bunch of fat women and awful weather in the summer.
With that said downtown or midtown whatever the fukk they call it had nice neighborhoods and houses for cheap compared to the Bay Area/SoCal, and it still is cheap. And the downtown sac area now has hella restaurants and breweries/bars and other small businesses that actually makes it a nice place to live. It isn’t just Taco Bell’s and Applebee’s anymore like it used to be back when I was a kid

I wish my pops bought a second house in sac in the 90s. Those craftsmans and Victorians now are $$$$$$$$$ :sadcam:
