I came late to this thread so I have no dog in the fight of whether people agree or disagree with the information presented in hidden colors. I only highlighted some of the authors in both films that were referenced as far as the information is concerned so people could have a chance to look up the information to judge for themselves. Many of the people presenting information in the documentary are doing so from some of the works of the authors I have mentioned. Matter of fact, some of them worked directly under those same people. But maybe your above point is referenced to others and not myself. I don't know.
But, what I do have a problem with is people not being able to thoroughly refute the claims they have made in regards to the information by citing sources that claim otherwise. Especially when debates regarding African history are the subject because of the social, and political implications they bring. African history is a touchy subject for many people because much of it does not fit their narrow world view of Africa or African people. All of that brings me to these questions; What reputable scholar or organization has discredited Ivan Van Sertima's work? And to what extent has that been done? I ask this because you can find his books being used by Universities in their history and humanities departments all over the world. Matter of fact I own all of his books and he documents thoroughly where he gets his sources from. The same can be said for JA rogers. While he does make some outrageous claims in some of his work, much of his work is beyond reproach when it comes to the level scholarship he put into bringing the information to the masses. I don't think his ideas were rooted in "white ideology", I believe they were rooted in finding truth regardless of the outcome. Authors such as these are starting points, but they are not the end all be all of scholarship on African history. That is exactly why I have researched and have read other authors to get a better hold of the information.
But if we are going to have a legitimate convo about disagreeing, then let's all come to the table with weapons ready to make our defense.
