Talent has never been at the forefront of rap.
Rap has been and will always be party music

He's not.
If that's how you feel about the culture, then you're never going to understand the criticism. Rap used to say something. If party music is all it is, then its nothing more than modern corny disco.

It was def better when these Nkggas invented music that talked about murkin cats, people who were "normal" were fakkits, promoting black on black violence etc.

Imo there is stupid rap, although that peaked almost a decade ago. The biggest stars today are Drake, Cole, Macklemore, Kdot, Wale, Yeezud, Jay, Nas, Eninem and them.. How the duck are these cats taking stupid shyt? They are a lot more reasonable than any top class of rappers have been since the 80s.

I respect face to death but this is some bitter old ass Larry Holmes shyt.

There are rap songs that say something now.
But, do not sit here and try to act like there was a time where social commentary was at the forefront and demanded by the consumer

Breh, hip hop has always been a lot of things, not just one thing. So if you want the party music cool you got that but lets not act like Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5 didn't change the game or at least help change it and show that you could do more than one thing in the genre. So you saying that hip hop has always been and always will be party music is just as bad as other cats saying it shouldn't be party music. Some of us like more content in our hip hop and that's not on some silly shyt, there's precedent for it. And for a lot of people, talent is key to it, maybe not to you but for me and I'm sure a lot of dudes on here, if you're garbage on that mic then :camby:plain and simple. If you disagree cool but let's not act like this is some foreign concept, especially on a hip hop message board where most of us got into the music because we liked what cats were saying and how they said it.
If people like more content in your rap why don't you listen to that instead of complaining about rappers that have no desire to create that type music.

These type of conversations always come down to the fact that people want the music they like to be whats popular

I do breh, I'm just explaining to you the mindset. I listen to exactly what I want to listen to but that doesn't mean I or anyone else can't have views on the game overall. Shyt has always been like that, that's the nature of the beast. You can't come to a hip hop board and then get mad at dudes for complaining about it or just talking about all facets of it. Nature of the beast

Gangsta rap planted the seeds to ignorance we see today. Just that people are just realizing the consequences in the long-term and see how it fukked up everything.

As much as I love westcoast gangsta rap, I can't really argue with you. Though I don't think it 'fukked everything up' as much as it influenced what amainstream rapper thinks they all need to be mixed with that Jay-z/Ceo/business man slant.

Hip Hop is alive and well in Southern California, I can tell you that. We have a little bit of everything going on at once.

nah, it was Puff that done that businessman shyt and ushered on the million dollar music video bullshyt mixed in the Tupac shyt. Only in the mid 00s, the southern snares and 808s made everything go to shyt for several years. In the last couple of years, we are climbing out of that rut.

Be went went Gold. The College Dropout was put under that commentary status when it dropped. Idk or understand what you're trying to point out & prove. There was a big market & appreciation for this material.

Its been beaten to death already, trends change. But just because they change doesn't make them a gold standard. If hip hop is nothing but party music to you, then don't catch feelings when the legends go out of their way & call it bs. In the end why do you care if all it is, is club banging to you?

I love Face and feel his opinions on this becaue we know most of hip hop today is a damn joke. but now I want to see some action from the OG. Enough with the interviews, CHANGE THIS shyt . Do a My Homies style compilation inviting all of the cats he rocks with. Everybody from Dre, Snoop to Kendrick to Drake to Ross to Big Daddy Kane to KRS having guests producers. Face using his brand name would also give alot of newer and younger cats who isn't noticed a platform. Thats how I discovered Devin the Dude on the first Homies compilation.

Then he can release a album leading the charge against what the feels about the INdustry. Invite artists whom are either blackballed or going through it just like Paris did with the Guerrilla Funk compilation album.
