Just pull up the 18 American all stars from this year. You’d have to take out 5 or 6 more deserving Americans just to fill out an international roster. How would you not conclude the Americans’ roster is much deeper?
The problem with this is, you're not looking at it from the perspective of next season.
- Tatum won't be there
- Kyrie won't be there
- Bron will be 41 and potentially won't play even if named (and even if he does, it will be in a limited capacity)
- Steph will essentially be 38
- Durant will be 37
- Dame will unlikely be there
- Harden will be 36.
That's 7 of the 18 players right there who either won't be there next season or they won't be moving the needle for a game(s) like that.
You're left with:
Brunson
Brown
Trae
Mitchell
Ant
JJJ
Jdub
Garland
Mobley
Herro
Cade.
Going off this year's roster, does that really look like a group of players that's capable of "blowing out" another team?
Now you look at what Team World could potentially look like:
Shai
Giannis
Wemby
Jokic
Luka
KAT
Sengun
Pascal
Lauri
Franz
OG
Murray
Amen
Deni.
They'd have arguably the 5 best players and a bench just as deep. And even if you want to argue we'd have a deeper roster, it doesn't mean a whole lot when the starters would be dictating the outcome of the game. Another important thing to remember here is, Giannis and Wemby would be the two main players who'd treat this with any real seriousness, and they'd be on the opposing squad.
