Far as the big man/small man argument...
Obviously most of the top guys have been people who had builds and looked like they could whoop your ass, because that's just what the prototype (no pun intended) of a wrestler has always been. It's never been about pushing someone who looks like someone in the audience could square up with 'em. But it's moved past that 1980s big guy mentality a long time ago. Even back then, people like Savage and Piper weren't necessarily big either. And really if you look thru all the years, there's just as many big muscle guys who went nowhere as ones that became stars. Same way we got our Hogans, Warrior, Brock, Batista, etc... there's also a GANG of Ted Arcidi, Barbarian, Warlord, Kurrgan, Nathan Jones, Luther Reigns, Matt Morgan, Chris Masters, Snitsky, Heidenreich, etc. who were big and usually fizzled out fast. I think being big HELPS, but it doesn't ensure a push like it used to. There was a time the idea of a MF 220 pounds being champion was a longshot at best, but it's happened. I don't think there'll ever be a day WWE is just packed with a bunch of Kalistos and Nevilles, but the range in size is more diverse now than it was back in the day.
