Or crime shyt... Drug dealing, criminal activities, etc.,

I made a post in the Film Room about Power and how I cant get into it. Of course all the power lovers came to its defense, but im just like its the same "grew up in the hood selling dope trying to become legit" shyt. Thats not the average black person life.

This is why im interested in Donald Glovers "Atlanta" show and "The Get Down". I wanna see different shyt. Even "ATL" and "Dope" was dope and different to me even if drugs and crime were apart of it, it wasn't about that.
Even Classics like Friday, we dont make movies like that no more

Im about to watch ATL right now actually. Classic movie
Even Dope and ATL has been done before though. That whole "coming of age" theme. We saw it with Baby Boy, Boyz n da Hood, Lottery Ticket, etc. Where's our Matrix, where's our Titanic, where's our Avatar is what i'm trying to say.

Reminder: Will Smith literally turned down The Matrix for Wild Wild West :snoop:

12 years a Slave (if that counts)
Django Unchained

Black Panther is coming out
Bad Boys 3

i dunno what your getting at, if you want a "Black" movie to be on the scale of Titanic or Avatar, ur essentially alienating every other race
which really doesn't work in this day and age

True, doesn't mean they weren't good movies that portrays growing up black (or hood) more than others.

But i feel what you saying. We dont have those types (unless you consider most of Will Smiths movies), but often times we only play side roles unless its a hood movies.

Its also why most black actors look up to people like Will, Denzel, Idras, etc. they're all in different shyt

nikka i said i liked them because they were more representative of what growing up hood or black was.

Its not centered around dealing dumbass... Its was centered around the kids in those areas:mjlol:

Dealing was apart of it, but not glorified.. Just like growing up in the hood if youre from there at least:sas2:

Two slave movies and a reboot is our best offering? Black Panther is something different, i'll give you that. White people alienate us all the time and it works for them. Look at all those blockbuster titles being pumped out every year with little to no black people in them.

Exactly

I don't mind those type of black movies.

Most of those are good movies too.. From Boyz in the Hood, to Friday, Baby Boy, The Wood, Lottery Ticket, ATL, Dope, etc.

At least most of us can relate

I see the point of the thread tho. Tired of black people only being in the hood or something. Most black movies do have a certain theme.

But like i said, its why most black actors look up to Will, Denzel, Idras, etc. theyre in big movies not necessarily about black struggles, slavery, hoods, etc.

Its why i fukked with Creed heavy, and any movie with black folk doing different shyt.
