That's a disingenuous take to lump those athletes together seeing as Naomi Osaka got more sympathy for her mental health issues in the press than say someone like PG and Kevin Love. Even The Coli is hypocritical with their stances when it comes to mental health as they treated Osaka's issues with kid gloves, but will turn around and crack jokes around PG13 and Kevin Love's mental health issues.

The reason I speak up about Osaka is that she's perfectly fine with showing up on TV and doing interviews and such, but is scared to touch the mic and talk when she takes her losses. You don't want to talk to the press, but you're perfectly fine with accepting ESPY awards in front of a large group of people or doing magazine covers and interviews. Her success in tennis has made her into the popular athlete that she is now, so it's disingenuous and unfair not to answer their questions when they've helped promote her and become who she is now.

Before you say the media isn't needed for athletes, that's a lie and even you know that.

Surprised you're the first person to mention this. In 2012, Gabby Douglas was everyone's favorite gymnast. She was the one that had everybody’s attention. The only person that came close to getting her love was McKayla Maroney. She was America's sweetheart.

Fast forward to 2016 and it doesn't seem like she was all there. People had moved on from her and Simone was the hot new thing. Aly Raisman also leveled up in those Olympics. They were the ones everybody focused on. Seemed like Gabby was just there for the ride, but it wasn't her team anymore.

I think athletes tend to come back to the Olympics as lesser versions of themselves. It takes a lot out of you to train for four years, just for two weeks of work. Once you have a GOAT performance, you usually don't repeat it. And considering the fact that Simone is already known as the GOAT gymnast off of one Olympics, there was a low chance she would have been able to top 2016.

The only athlete I've seen go to the Olympics multiple times and steal the show is Michael Phelps, and even he had a drop-off (2008 to 2012, which was originally going to be his last one).
