Fair enough but I'd say they're pretty even in-terms of notoriety, the casual rap fan probably doesn't know either

No.

I'm not from the east or the west, but I've heard nikkaz calling Big L one of the greatest rappers of all-time.

He populates lots of dudes top 10 of ALL-TIME, even top 5.

Mac Dre is in nobody's top 10 or 5 outside of the bay area.

That's not a diss, but it's the truth.

Yes, he was part of a movement, but it was not a movement that was bigger than the East Coast "return" movement that produced Big L, Biggie, Wu-Tang, Nas, Jay-Z, etc. . . That movement grabbed Hip-Hop back from L.A. in the mid-'90s.

real shyt there needs to be some stricter definition about who can and cannot be considered a rapper. unless you earn some type of livable wage off of rapping to me you ain't a rapper you just some guy that raps same as how dudes who just play bball at the local court ain't considered a "basketball player"

Exactly, most of these nikkaz are on the list because they knew somebody.

I wonder if they consider anybody who knew Axl Rose or Jim Morrison who died a "rock star"

Real talk.

I wish they called every one in a garage band a musician or Rockstar when they died lmao...

THANK YOU!!!

They only do this with Hip-Hop. They count the most insignificant weed carrying nikkaz as "rap stars" when they die, but they never consider people who sing
karaoke "pop stars".

I dont know how or why this thread devolved into a goddamned Mac Dre vs. Big L beef of all things, but this report just proves how little the lives of black youth in the hood are valued. That old Chris Rock joke about if you wanna get away with murder, put a demo in the person's pocket is true.

Meh, 52 people over 28 years isn't really that much when you think about it.

That's less than two a year.

And considering that 99% of these dudes weren't millionaires with platinum plaques, then it really gets even smaller.

The only legitimate "stars" on this list are 2pac, Biggie, and Jam Master Jay. Those guys are like some of the most famous rappers/djs of all-time.

Then you have guys like Big L and Mac Dre who were on the way up and had potential

The rest of those guys were just dudes who rapped in their hood just like every other nikka in Amerikkka.

Mac Dre had more impact and influence on hip hop culture then Big L did :manny:

No.

MAC DRE IS THE EPITOME OF A LEGEND.....IF U DISAGREE? HIP-HOP PASS REVOKED.

Maybe in California.

Rest of the country. . . no.

Be naive breh :snoop:

Mac Dre had a HUGE following nationwide. He toured heavily in KC, Seattle, Denver, Iowa all those Midwest states and even down south breh.

He had the same amount of love, fans and support that he had in Cali as he had in KC

That's true but that's only because people reiterate paradigms - he's done enough to be considered top 10 - his catalog makes for a viable argument. Not the same case for Big L

Crispness
but just because someone has more body of work necessarily dose not mean they are more accomplish

Uh...that's exactly what it means. lol

It someone has a more extensive body of work, they have more accomplishments...thereby making them "more accomplished".

52 in 30 years is not that astonishing at all. Especially when everyone and their mama is a rapper. That is like 1.7 a year.

I'm surprised they didn't put Nussie on the list considering Boosie's name was in the mix of his murder... unless I missed it

:martin: With that logic, the Insane Clown Posse and "more accomplished" than Biggie, 2pac, and Big L

Try telling that to Pac stans..

2pac was prolific AND he has legitimate all-time great rap classics.

Big difference.

If he was just prolific, but never had no platinum records or was only bumped by a select few people, then you'd have a point
