SAS had burned bridges at ESPN, was offered a pay cut and decided to leave. Except he didn't move on to bigger and better things but instead had to resort to trying to become a political commentator, mostly appearing on Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly shows
While Skip is obviously an egotistical dirtbag he looks out for his people,
as evidenced by Rob Parker still having a media career. Obviously Skip recognized that having SAS on regularly would be mutually beneficial and wasn't doing it out of kindness of his heart, but he did give him a lifeline back into ESPN.
