I think it’s petty (but true to character) that he didn’t mention his first wife who had to hold him down at his peak as well as deal with all that comes with it, but that’s one of the stories that gets told if/when an objective doc is made. This was his Straight Outta Compton - the way Dre and Cube controlled the narrative is the way Jordan has

his wife got 168 mill and they are still on good terms.

I know the subtext wasn't about the Dixie chicks protesting, I'm saying that if you don't want Mike on a pedestal, why desire a look into his private life when you wouldn't ask for this from any of the other billions of people on Earth? Condemnation of the celebrity pedestal would look like appreciation for doing a good job and that's it really.

Relieving the chips is like talking to an architect who designed the Empire State building, maybe one can't help "deify" these individuals if their accomplishments are seen as larger than life. But knocking someone off the pedestal goes both ways, you show them as they really were & one can't say this doc didn't do that from the practices, to Slim Bouler, to the made up slights, and teammate comments, but you also give them the right to keep to themselves as most people who aren't on a pedestal get to do.

I think far too many people in this thread are laser-ing in on this "look into his private life" stuff and framing it as an invasion of privacy argument...and my view is...if you're going to do a 10 hour documentary on a figure as large as Michael Jordan...the scope of it should venture outside of a collection of highlights, which is what this doc largely was. It should offer to paint a broader picture because it tells a more complete and nuanced story. Athletes...human beings, really...are much more than their professional accomplishments. We...rather I (clearly cannot speak for certain simpletons here) learned nothing from this series.

We all agree that something like the OJ Made In America series was done far better and the main reason for it was the layers and radius of topics that it touched upon. And that's really what the article posted is about.
It's less about attacking MJ as a person and more of a reminder of how superficial his brand and appeal and history really is.

but what I'm saying is that, there isn't just one way to not worship a person as some like to make it seem. Peering into someone's life is acknowledgement that that person is worthy of caring about on some out of ordinary scale. If you don't want to put a person on a pedestal, then you can 1)expose their true selves or 2)leave them alone...it's rather that simple. Now we were promised bts looks into the team and their championship run and for a lot of people, they did see stuff they never saw before. You had players not knowing a lot of what was shown, and I'm sure some posters too. This never promised to talk about Jordan's family, his marriage or any of that kinda stuff, but it didn't gloss over controversies that may have hurt or helped the team either. So tell me how Jordan's marriage would play a role in what the team was doing, if in real time it had no effect?
