Drake has been riding the wave of ATL's hottest rappers for a good 4 years now.

The entire Chiraq drill sound was birthed by Waka/808 Mafia.

All these guys harmonizing over trap beats are doing their best Future rendition. (Fetty Wap,Travis Scott etc..)

Damn near every mainstream rapper in the past 2 years has used the Migos triplet flow (I know they didn't invent it..but they made it pop again)

Three of biggest spring/summer songs this year are from Thug, Rich Homie and Migos. (Check,Flex,One Time)

I could go on..but the main point is...record sales mean little when it comes to ATL's run...their influence is undeniable in the past decade.
damn, you right :why:

This is what Atlanta sounds like.

And there's more. A lot more. fukk the radio.

I'm legit :dwillhuh: .................:wow: ....actually quality stuff, and actually has that Dungeon Family sound .................................. terrestial radio is such a migraine on music in general.

That's why keeping the Internet open and free is so import...............................oh nevermind, they already have started to process to corporatize and regulated the internet like terrestial radio......enjoy :leostare:

With said I'll give Future his props, this still slaps ....

If there is no region running the rap game right now, why is everyone flocking to Atlanta to get a buzz?

people have been doing that since 1990.

they go down there because thats where most of the industry is at.

with that said, it was only a matter of time before the airwaves became flooded with their locals. it doesnt mean that theyre running the game tho.

If Atlanta isn't running the game.... then why are rappers from other major cities that have major music bases, running to Atlanta so they can get on?

It's amazing how so many of y'all use Outkast as a barometer when it comes to shytting on Atlanta...... like when Outkast was running shyt, the entire collective/ sound of Atlanta was on some Outkast-esqe shyt.

truth be Told... Outkast wasn't THAT influential when it came to the rest of Atlanta's sound... in the last 15 years of Atlanta rap, it's consistently been about dancing, selling dope, and beating ass.
:francis:You're right.

Even Before the 2000's Atlanta rap was about dance songs and pimps/player raps.... people love to create this Narrative that Atlanta rap started with Outkast, and that all music from Atlanta was Outkast/Dungeon Family sounding...when that's never been the case.
exactly lol
it even spreads out over the south in general
people act like before trap music everyone in the south was jigging to andre 3000 in poofy pants and weird hats and making alien references as if the the south went from mlk to outkast and now we're here

Who was that mexican dude that was in Dungeon Family's 2nd generation? He was a fukking beast, and he killed that posse cut on the very last track on the Dungeon Family cd.

Outkast and Cee-lo were anomalies, two anamolies today are Gambino and Killer Mike.

The thing is that rap is a lot more commercial than it was. In order to blow up you've got to be extremely nice/creative or have club hits or some other type of hit. Atlanta had a very solid club scene and that seems to be the way people are coming up.
They are making shyt we play at parties, pre parties and on, and that type of music is as good or even better than it was in the 90s due to the production.

Killer Mike is 40, and not really an anomaly, he's the same age as most of the DF members...... he's just more of traditional gangsta rapper than a dope boy rapper like T.I., Gucci or Jeezy. It just happened to take him 10+ years to get the recognition he deserved back in 2001.

Run The Jewels is not really like Killer Mike 2003 (I don't know why he should've had the recognition he gets now after like 8 albums before his debut album :what:) and is nothing like Gucci Mane(???), Jeezy or T.I.. The reason I mention him is cause he relaunched himself with RTJ who came with a new sound and are from Atlanta (and New York). Just like I would mention 2 Chainz.
