If you punch anybody in the NBA or MLB is an automatic ejection. You can punch the ball out of someone hands in the NBA if you actually fail to hit the player you’re probably getting suspended.

I don’t have a problem with this. If you miss a punch out and punch a player in the head or stomach, or worse below the belt, why should that not be penalized simply because you said “oh I was going for the football?” And the penalty is a personal foul, not an ejection or anything.

In basketball if you go for a block but knock someone in the head while he’s in the air, there’s no “my bad I was going for a block.” It’s a flagrant.
