So are you a fan of the "new" WWE style?

Flippy shyt! Big bumps! Finishers spam! Nearfalls! Every match!!

  • Love it, it's miles better than 5-10 years ago

  • I like it, matches are consistently better than before

  • Not a fan, it gets repetitive and losses it's impact fast

  • Hate it, everything ends up being meaningless and doesn't make sense

I hardly watch anymore but it just seems ridiculous and part of the reason I don't watch anymore. Sometimes it legitimately feels like you are watching the same match over and over again with the only difference being the finishers being used

Yeah the wrestlers nowdays are better athletes and live better lifestyles off camera, than at any other point in Pro Wrestling history...

BUT

What I want to know is WTF are Arn, Malenko & Finlay doing in their roles as Senior agents/producers and excellent workers in their inring days to allow the product to get so spammy. Or have I misunderstood what the role of the agent/producer is.

The formula was pretty much invented by Austin vs Rock. They did a mild version of it at WM 15, then took it to the next level at 17 and that's been the blue print for WWE epic ever since. Now it's just the WWE style period and people will do it even if they aren't capable of doing it. WWE shows basically have become giant PWG shows, where everyone is going full blast every match on the card and the crowd gets burned out after an hour. Hard to give a shyt about the 8th dive of the night.

Yeah, can't deny that.

Kurt Angle also took it to the next level by doing the same formula but adding more pace and spots to it.

I guess my point was that after Mania 26 the WWE Epic became more of a regular thing than a special one.

I'd like it more if these dudes were crisp with it. Gone are the Eddie's and ******'s and :hitgoat: who were completely fluid with their reversal technique.

I always disagree with the crispness argument. There's way too many amazing performers that weren't crisp. And honestly, nowadays you have guys like Zack Sabre Jr or Will Ospray (or 5 years ago Davey Richards) were one of the things that makes their matches so hit or miss is that they insists on doing everything as crisp as possible, so a lot of reversals look like complete choreographed bulllshyt.

This dawned on me this week after the Sasha vs Charlotte match. At some point the agents have to be accountable too about this style getting out of hand.

It's weird because they do a good job of reining shyt in when it comes to NXT but the main roster is a whole 'nother story.

Yeah Kurt went crazy with it and made his standard match the WWE Epic style at the time, which spread everywhere he went. That's a big reason why I don't rate him super high, particularly after 2002. The matches on Raw that get shyt on for being shyt for being spot heavy and finisher spam nonsense is what Kurt was doing with pretty much everyone on every level of the card for 14 years.

It's good but it has major flaws. Just one example being that finishers are used as regular moves now, not talking about the DDT and leg drop but c'mon how come the Blue Thunder Bomb, Phoenix Splash, or God's Last Gift never finished anyone in the WWE? :martin:

I'm a massive AJ fan but his match with Cena at SummerSlam is the perfect example

Considering how AJ works most of his matches, I tend to give more blame on that on Cena and his PWGing in his matches.

Looking back, I'm :wow: at Daniel Bryan having the type of match he had against Cena in 2013. He's the only one that was able to reign him in after the Punk feud.

The only thing I'm really bothered by is some of the moves that should clearly either be finishers, or at least lead to a pinfall SOMETIMES that simply lead to two counts. Cesaro's Psycho Crusher uppercut, Sami's Blue Thunder Bomb, and like half of KO's move-set should lead to pinfalls, though i think recently KO's Hog Splash and inverted TKO have led to those.

Suicide dives need to :camby:
