I agree on all this stuff. I just don't think that people even understand the weight of that type of conversation until they're in their late 20s more times than not.
I've seen some coworkers legit question everything because they never had the conversation about the costs of childcare, career priorities (If I get my masters, will you carry the financial burden? If you get a great job, will I move with you? stuff), what settling down even means to each other.
Most people don't know and haven't even thought about it. The one thing that I actually liked about the military was that you HAD to confront your short and long term career goals on a quarterly basis. These civilians out here just reckless because its easy and mentally convenient
