Damn this thread was made 3 years ago, 3 days after I moved to the A lol. Honestly top 3 one of the best decisions I ever made. I would stay here forever but I don't think I would want to raise kids here. However as a 36 year old bachelor it's

There are a lot of misconceptions and generalizations in this post, some that make no sense.

The city is not overpopulated
99% of businesses aren’t owned by white people :mjlol:

Atlanta’s a great place to live, work and play. Atlanta is well known for its entertainment industry (movies, television and music) but is also a burgeoning tech hub.

As far as black people in management and senior level positions, Atlanta is home to over 20 Fortune 500 companies (Coca Cola, Chik Fil A, UPS, Home Depot, Delta, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, etc) and is a cultural destination for black people (home of the Civil Rights movement, Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Atlanta University Center, etc).

If you come here focused and ready to work and network you can find success. But if you come here on bullshyt and think everything is gonna be handed to you then Atlanta won’t be all that special to you. I can help point you in the right direction if you need it OP. Good luck
People act like they can’t commute lol. I mean there are jobs in cities around Atlanta or you can just move to one of them places and get a job in the city. Damn near everybody I know that moved there live on the outside and just drive there if they want to do things. I wanted to live in the middle of downtown ATL as a young dude, now I’d just live in like Doraville or Marietta and do what I hade to do :yeshrug:

If you love black women there's no better place IMO. Whatever you're into you can find it here and it's a ridiculous amount. They are EVERYWHERE. Your waitress, the person bagging groceries, your uber driver, your banker, your real estate agent, the random chick walking down the street etc etc, will be a nice looking black woman. I've seen more bad black women while doing simple shyt like going to Walmart than I have anywhere else.

Honestly whatever your into, whatever age you are, there will be nice black women available to you.

Im a city boy so I personally wouldn’t want to live that far out but you’re right. I knew people who daily commuted from right outside Greenville SC to the metro Atlanta area for work. Just depends what the job is and what your comfortable doing

But some of these other quotes like there’s no jobs for blacks people or Atlanta is full, man GTFOH with that shyt. As a native, Atlanta definitely isn’t perfect and I’ll be the first one to admit it but y’all are gonna have to find me a better place for a black man in America right now

This is stupid. Not even safe and very time consuming.

There’s jobs for black people everywhere in this nation btw. The reality is black people would rather just be around their own kind.

And here I thought coworkers driving in from Adairsville was bad :picard:

Atlanta
Ok op let me be clear, because I don’t want it taken to grim and literal. As long as you have a plan, you can live wherever you want, and Atlanta is a great place for black people to live. Black politicians. More black cops vs white ones. And yes black people in good corporate positions. But I was born and raised here and most of my family comes from up north and a large portion of them have moved down here. So I’m speaking in regards to people who come here and it ain’t what they thought, so you don’t get influenced by them. There are plenty of diverse companies, but it’s still like other cities in regards to your workplace. Don’t apply for jobs on linked in thinking the owner is black. Because 9 times out of 10 it will not be. That has nothing to do with the company not being diverse or saying it doesn’t have black people at top positions, but that fact means it’s no easier here getting a job vs other places. Overpopulation is not literal like you can’t breathe. What I mean is that gentrification is real here, and black people are being pushed further away from the city because the prices in the city are getting higher and higher due to so many people moving here. So cost of living is what attracted many black people back in the day. It’s an expensive city now

there is no reason you can’t make it here. If you are a hard worker and all that, it will be easy for you. Plenty of diverse businesses. Definitely Delta. (I don’t work there) I’m just sick and tired of people moving here taking the “Wakanda shyt so literal”. Great city for black people. Houston is too, but people still got the same struggles and everybody not movie stars. It’s jobs here and you will be fine. There are homes here as well. Culture and a lot more. But people watch too many movies and think that the real people From Atlanta all living glamorous and leave and talk shyt when that don’t happen to them.

so you will be fine. It’s a great city to live in. Just don’t be like those other people. Who not willing to put the work in. I’m sure you will be fine.

born and raised here... and I been around the world and love it here the most. Great place to raise a family

I genuinely don’t understand why people say that. The people moving here largely helped us get two Senate seats in a traditionally red state. Atlanta is quickly consolidating its a political, tech and cultural power in the region. Why say “we full” when we’re getting shyt done with more people moving here?

Moved here 3 years ago. It’s been one of the best decisions I made.

I love being around black people. I love being able to go to College Park, and take my pick of eating establishments, and knowing that they are all black owned. The neighborhood I live in is all black, and we have not had to deal with any trouble. Also, being an engineer, there have been no shortage of job opportunities. I was laid off during the early part of the pandemic, and was able to find another job pretty quick.

There’s always something for my family and I to do, and even though we don’t live in the actual city of Atlanta, it only takes us 15 to 20 mins to get downtown. My parents live in Mississippi and the rest of my family live in North Carolina. It’s a 5 hour drive to either, and that’s not bad at all. It allows for my fam to be in my little girls life, and that’s what I want. Plus, my child’s mother lives here and is from here, and her family being here has helped with that as well.

I don’t intend on staying here, as I’ve always said I’d move back home to North Carolina at some point, but for the moment I’m content. Atlanta has been good to me and mine, and if you come with the right mindset, it will be to you as well. Man, I just love being around my people and ATL gives plenty of that

It's really more of a tongue-in-cheek thing when I say it, really. You have your foodie elitism, let me have my suburbanite elitism. :pachaha:

Man, I used to own up in the Adairsville/Cartersville area. Had to get out of there. That commute from Cartersville to the Atlanta Airport for work everyday was hell; especially on 75. 75 around Smyrna and Marietta used to be a nightmare. Wasn’t so bad in the mornings as long as you left at the crack of dawn, lol, but coming home during the evenings. Yikes. Plenty of times where I used to be like fu*k it, and just get a hotel. Usually did that on fridays, as it gave me an excuse to party in the city lol
