So is it really unadvisable to move to Atlanta?

Man, I used to own up in the Adairsville/Cartersville area. Had to get out of there. That commute from Cartersville to the Atlanta Airport for work everyday was hell; especially on 75. 75 around Smyrna and Marietta used to be a nightmare. Wasn’t so bad in the mornings as long as you left at the crack of dawn, lol, but coming home during the evenings. Yikes. Plenty of times where I used to be like fu*k it, and just get a hotel. Usually did that on fridays, as it gave me an excuse to party in the city lol

How long ago was this? I hear these stories and my first thought is...you could have gotten a really nice spot nearby, College Park, Riverdale, even in Fayetteville with all the pilots and been set. Unless you have children and need access to the better private schools or you work in finance or tech, I wouldn't bother with that craziness on the north side of town. It's just too glutted.

The only time a commute made me actually consider getting a hotel was for Snowmageddon. :merchant:

A lot of ppl who live in them uber northern suburbs got a perimeter/400 hotel standby. With the websites deals. 66 dollars a night ain't too bad for a "clean" bed.

Wyndgate at Wyndham had a 88 dollar a night on Mansell but the negros found out about it and ruined it

There are a lot of misconceptions and generalizations in this post, some that make no sense.

The city is not overpopulated
99% of businesses aren’t owned by white people :mjlol:

Atlanta’s a great place to live, work and play. Atlanta is well known for its entertainment industry (movies, television and music) but is also a burgeoning tech hub.

As far as black people in management and senior level positions, Atlanta is home to over 20 Fortune 500 companies (Coca Cola, Chik Fil A, UPS, Home Depot, Delta, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, etc) and is a cultural destination for black people (home of the Civil Rights movement, Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Atlanta University Center, etc).

If you come here focused and ready to work and network you can find success. But if you come here on bullshyt and think everything is gonna be handed to you then Atlanta won’t be all that special to you. I can help point you in the right direction if you need it OP. Good luck

Exactly look at all the HBCUs keep in mind Atlanta will add another Charlotte, SC in 20 years. Also Georgia may turn blue which would give Atlanta a lot more power and influence.

Atlanta can be a good place but our culture would have to mimic Asians.

My story is a little weird, lol. I came up to Georgia from Mississippi, and when I first came up here I got a job in Dalton, GA up near Chattanooga TN. Lived there for a few months, then my job transferred me to Cartersville. Moved to Cartersville, and bought a crib up there. Thought I was going to be there for a long while, until I got my child’s mother pregnant and I happened to luck out and get a job at the Atlanta Airport. So, naturally it only made sense to move to Atlanta, but I stayed in Cartersville for a few months and a made that commute.

My child’s mother is from Riverdale, so I know it very well. It gets a bad rep, but there are some spots that are cool. Went to Riverdale schools her entire life, and I met her while I was at A&T. I’m living in Fairburn/Fayetteville now, and can’t complain. Neighborhood is black, and we all pretty much look out for each other. I’m pretty much right next to Rick Ross’ crib. Used to hit up that Waffle House right next to his crib every Sunday morning haha. Also, yea I feel you on the north side. I really have no interest in going up that way. I used to have some dealings up in the Vinings area, and it is just so congested. Cool to go every once in awhile but, I love the south side.

I’ve been contemplating just leaving in the night and going, just to follow my dreams of independence but based on past posts many of you advise against the mass migration to the A.

Have any of you ever just pack up a bag and leave without intentions of returning? How did it go for you?
I honestly think some of y’all watch too many movies and I say that with respect.

What the hell you need to leave in the middle of the night for? Just pack up your shyt accordingly and leave normally. You know what I mean? A move like this is a big deal and should be planned out and thought through.

It’s a very silly thing to do. Moving somewhere without a plan or a job waiting for you will forever be retarded to me.

even if you trying to enter an industry you at least need a basic jobs for needs

Los Angeles ,California…
I remember back in the 90s and early 2000s a boatload of nikkas was running here to LA with nothing lined up and it ended with

1. Women getting turned out and tossed around

2. people ended up getting waiter and waitress jobs to just live with 3 other roommates to share rent and they 25 or 30 years old

3. they ended up moving back to where ever they came from

all in all never moved anywhere without cash a job or if u have fam in that city

This brings back memories:picard: I’m from Augusta and my best friend lived in Cartersville. I would go have out with him and the family for the weekend and leave Monday morning to get back home trying to beat the traffic. Man I don’t know what kind of accident it was in Atlanta that one time but it shut EVERYTHING DOWN! I was so mad man lol. I was on the road at 7am. I swear I didn’t make it to I-20 til at least 1pm. I know one thing though, I was late for work that day. I had to be at work by 2:30. Never did that again after that lol.
