The way America is set up 15hr is not a lot.

The jobs that pay 15 have just as much or less skill than fast food worker

Bank tellers, EMTs, factory workers... all these jobs pay less than 15 and require more skills than fast food. Theres jobs in healthcare that are the same thing. Fast food work is not worth no god damn 15 an hour outside of cities like SF and NYC

Ohh yea? Every time I pass chik fil lay or even go there myself the lines are packed. I'm not saying your wrong, I haven't looked at the numbers or any surveys; but around my area the story says other wise

And I could go on, and what's really funny is that they all look out for each other. So you think they are going to pay their own less or make sure they aren't straight? My last four managers were Indian, I'm the only black programmer here. The other 60+ are Indian/Asian.

shyt, Facebook is big on visas to bring them over here and some of their programmer positions start at $120K.

You guys love to make things up on here. Outside of game programming, they damn near have the automation field on lock and make up a high percentage of other software development fields.

A large corporation such as Wendy's can afford 15 an hr easily. It's a matter of not being willing to pay than an ability to pay.

you do know the goal of a business is to maximize profits right? I`m sure your company can give you a 30k raise right now for performing the same, but what sense does that make? Increase in pay = increase in output =increase in profits, this is the only time a company will increase someones pay.

I wonder if all the self-proclaimed economics experts who decry a higher minimum wage are curious as to why people manage to have higher minimum wages, better social safety nets, and an overall better median standard of living in practically every single wealthy developed country than ours.

We have the advantage of more natural resources than anyone.
We have the advantage of more access to ocean trading routes than anyone.
We have the advantage of virtual invulnerability to domestic war.
We have the advantage of relatively low population density.
We have the advantage of far more power in the global marketplace than anyone.

But somehow with all those advantages, we can't offer the standard of living to poor/working class people that's been guaranteed for decades now in Australia, New Zealand, UK, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, etc.?

IDK about the out west thing, but non fortune 100 companies tend to just hire a ton of Asian contractors for the low or just outsource straight to india for even less.

I don't care about any companies profit.. Mickey D's doesn't not have some inherent right to exist and make money. If they cant compete then they deserve to go out of business. If the market demands it then another more innovative fast food chain will take their place. There are plenty of ways to innovate to save money outside of just keeping wages low. The problem is these companies are not investing in their own future by innovating. They can save millions a year through simple supply chain innovations and other improvements. The reason they attack wages and cut workers hours first is simply cause they can get away with it for now and it's easier than being force to innovate. Mickey D's is already losing ground to their more innovate competitors like five guys, in and out burger etc.. And speaking of in and out burger.. they have been making profits, expanding, and paying a higher starting wage(over $10 per hour) for years..

Of course you dont care if they dont profit you dont own one. Its simple they hold the keys... You ask for a ridiculous amount of money and they replace you with a touch screen kiosk. Let me know how big companies like Apple corp, microsoft and google treat your resumes. I am sure they will let you walk right into a 40k+ job... Fact is fast food restaurants are an easy place to walk in and get a job, its the bottom of the barrel money wise for a reason, we need to stop comparing it as a career move or some amazing company to work for and flourish, thats not what they are there for. You can keep arguing all you want but your points are invalid as soon as you say you dont care about their profit, this isn't a charity case...

In order for capitalism to really work, the ones on the bottom have to stay fed..... and also, they're going to be the biggest workforce 9 times out of 10..... and when it gets to the point when they can't eat, the whole system is in danger of toppling....

yea you have CNAs and stuff making 10 bucks. IMO People in Healtcare in non degree required roles and other hard labor jobs should all def be making more, but Fast food hell no.

its funny people like using Facebook in Apple in examples in comparison to got damn fast food companies. Silicon Valley is full of people with degrees from the best universities on earth, and cats who are straight geniuses and even then those companies dont pay crazy in perspective of the nature of the work. Apple pays 110k but 110k in Cali translates to say 70k in ATL (which is still good) but then when you factor in you are working 60+ hr weeks under insane stress it def is not the same.

lol its a reason most of you dont run businesses I see.

which is why people will continue to cry about white daddy not giving them what they need. They are begging for items that goes against the system they live in. Instead of begging for the system to do something it isn't set up for, why not discuss changing the system as a whole?

So what? That's the objective of technology - to make less work for humans.

Instead of focusing on the jobs lost, think about how this opens up opportunities for more skilled labor in IT.

Breh, I work with offshore Indians also, of course they are going to be paid less since their cost of living is a lot cheaper. But the people they send from the companies to work onsite with us, make way more than we do.

The fact of the matter is they are eating, there's a reason why so many of them are in the tech field. people saying they are being Low balled, don't even see how they are taking over the game.

Also a reason why I named Microsoft is because they are more than just windows or office. They are also a consulting company that do a lot of work with smaller companies( we have people here from Microsoft ), so don't be surprised when the CEO open up the doors for more of his people . The hiring here got so bad( they kept hiring their own ). HR had to step in. One of the reasons why I think I'm here.
