Joe Budden has no personality

His flow and voice were wierd as hell

He looked corny

Pump it Up was a generic hit ..the kind that gets spins but does nothing for the artist ...theres lots of rappers like that...think Ace Hood etc

Didn't follow Pump It Up with a hit

Debut album wasn't that good

Not enough went into his artist development

Speaking of Joe Budden, did he ever try to rematch Hollow da don after their battle?

He had zero appeal to the female audience.
Ironic that he bagged the baddest females in the game

To OP he didn’t have a follow up album to his self titled album

he had a drug problem (it didn’t stop Eminem and a bunch of similar rappers I know)

his nasal voice was an acquired taste

he probably burned some bridges at Def Jam

should have had some more features with OGs who repped the district like Redman.

budden came out at the wrong time with the wrong image.
pump it up came out in 2003, and people really didnt really take him seriously as a rapper until 2006 (mood muzik 2)
pump it up and fire werent the right singles or videos for his image. my homie had to beg me to listen to his debut album and i was shocked by some of the good music he had on there.

he also had beef with jayz and 50, the two biggest artists at the time. then when it was time for his second album, hip hop was beginning to change and def jam was promoting different kinds of music and newer artists.

if budden debuted today, or even 5-10 years ago when emo music was popular, he'd he have a whole different career and be way more popular.

hes also one of the first artists to put his music and daily life online for people to see. he was doing that shyt before instagram was popular lol

but yeah, timing is everything

I remember him having beef with Jay and Jay was running DefJam at the time so his second album was in purgatory because of it.

I liked his first album for what it's worth...its also the only Budden album I've ever listened to

I still listen to walk with me

Def Jam gave him a chance to drop The Growth back in 2005 when Jay was running things. Jay let everyone drop an album that year (bleek, young gunz, beanie, Kanye, Juelz, etc). Joe had "Gangsta Party" with Nate Dogg. Even though it was a flop they were still gonna let him drop his album, but Joe refused saying he wasn't ready and that he wanted more than the 11-12 songs limit for the album. After that too much time had passed and they stopped spending money on him and pretty much shelved him.
