That comic book/sci-fi nerd community contains some of the biggest racists out there. you just wouldn't assume it.

Read up on "Gamer-gate".

Much of the focus has been on misogyny, but there is a healthy dosage of 'cism as well.

I feel like a lot of it comes from...the same place these police officers come from. Just as cops grew up feeling emasculated by athletes and shyt, these dorks grew up being picked on for playing Magic The CACering, speaking klingon, all that bullshyt. Now that Hollywood has appropriated some of that culture, these nerds are feeling themselves now, thinking that they should be "in charge", and nobody is trying to hear that....

I always suggested that black filmmakers start dealing with science fiction and fantasy. Whites got films like Lord of The Rings and Star Wars. But black people got films like Medea Goes to such & such, & Baby Boy. There's plenty of African folklores that could be made into films.

Been on this for awhile too.

One great black sci-fi writer was Octavia E. Butler....fantastic works to draw inspiration (or even adapt) from.
