So with backlash against Ross would Eminem's "Guilty Conscience" get the same?

Eminem received way more back lash because he was way more popular than Rick Ross. Pretty much every person that was not black or hispanic under 20 was fukkin with EM buying albums and prolly calling TRL.

The mainstream media was hating on dude heavy and it just caused pre-teen white boys and girls to love the man.

Eminem's popularity > Rick Ross's therefore Eminem's backlash > Rick Ross's

everyone in here blaming racism is probably blaming the man for ya momma having you at 14 and ya daddy leaving ya... sorry bras im here for you :salute:

Our support will not look like white support. One rapper caters to 17% of the population while the other caters to almost 70%. Stop actin stupid fred

You don't understand how statistics work, do you?

Why does Wanye go 4x plat while Yellawolf flops? After all, one caters to 70% and one caters to 17%, right? What about Bubba Sparxxx? Firecracker? Lil Wite? Kreyshawn? White from CTE? etc etc etc.

Eminem is literally the only successful white rapper. If it was as simple as "catering to the racial majority" then Ross wouldn't be outselling every white rapper not named Eminem.

Your support doesn't need to look like white support. Ross is barely going gold. You're telling me out of the 38 million black people in America, one million of them can't make Ross go plat one time?

Of course they could, they just choose not to. Complaining about Eminem and white people ain't gonna change that though.

Fred.

U aint black either :mjpls:

So Em the most sucesful rapper in history didnt have ANYTHING to lose from being protested?? So he couldnt lose radio play for those questionable lines he was spitting? MTV couldnt have stopped playing his videos because of the protests?? The grammy committee didnt have to give him those Grammys(he didnt deserve them anyway). There were tons of things that white boy coulda lost but he didnt. Keep trying to rationalize this like u cant see his white priviledge afforded him protection from what any black artist in his position woulda had to deal with.

And whats even more disgusting is that hiphop protected Em for rapping about raping his own mother but then condemns Ross for slipping a molly in a womans drink. Disgusting what this culture has turned into

Shut yo cac ass up and get out ya feelins he got dropped from reebok and thats that reeboks is whack anyway

CONTEXT. "Guilty Conscious" is a concept record based on the "Angel/Devil" on your shoulder. It's 3 different stories told from the perspective of the good side and the bad side. It's a brilliant record and one of the reason I respect eminem as an emcee after releasing that wack "My Name Is". Stop bringing up Eminem and Biggie lines trying to draw comparisons to Ross when Em and Biggie are storytellers. Ross is not. Move on. Also love the ending of the song when the Angel/Dre gives in to the Devil/Em.

He didn't lose out on anything? So I guess it was just a coincidence that the biggest artist in America at the time didn't have ANY endorsement deals the first few years of his career. You're comparing his music accomplishments to sponsorships from corporate America. Gee big correlation there :ld:

Em had outrage against him but you also had people on the "oh but he's just an edgy artist, lets play him on rock stations still even though we don't play thug music" shyt too. Ross aint gonna have certain demographics running to put the Band-Aid over the wound like Marshall did. :mjpls:

some of you stupid young nikkas werent around when marshall was catching hell from fakkits, soccer moms and females in general. he had EVERYONE going at his neck and it was on a much larger scale because of the nature and the weight mtv etc held back then.

the bottom line is this, employees get fired all the time for talking out of line and saying stupid shyt and rick ross was let go for that, no matter the reasons. get over that shyt.

Yeah i remember being in jr high and this was when Em dropped MM LP. My history teacher, now hes about 50+ yrs old, first thing he says when we bout to start class, "Guys, whats up with this eminem guy?..." I was a big em fan so i was like

You gotta understand these groups pick and choose what to be offended by and when. I've heard several rape references in rap songs prior to Ross' verse. Enough people get behind these groups, the pressure gets on and then Reebok has to make a decision based on what's good for business. Your acting like womens rights groups weren't attacking Em for his lyrics. Only difference is I can't think of any sponsors or Endorsements Em had at the time.

Concept song or not the content is equally offensive... Let's not bullshyt each other.

This is not to say which lyrics are more acceptable, or that em is above criticism. But if you're going to compare them and point out the similarities the differences need to be highlighted as well. CONTEXT/NARRATIVE is where these two instances differ.

In the song in question he's got someone telling him "THAT'S WRONG" with every fukked up decision/line he's spitting, there is a clear difference between that and the ross line.

Rick Ross the drug dealer kingpin is also a fictitious character so u could say the verse was done from that perspective if u wanna act a clown :troll::aicmon:

All rap is entertainment, don't try to boost em above criticism because he is a better rapper.

Eminem has never made any secret about being deliberately offensive. When asked to explain his lyrics he flat out said he's trying to push buttons, in his music and in his interviews.

Ross on the other hand had a chance to fall back on the "all rappers are characters" shyt you're using here and instead chose to pretend like his date rape lyrics were somehow misunderstood.

He either is really that dumb/naive and didn't know what he was describing was a rape...or he decided it would be better for his image to stay in character than to actually give a coherent explanation about his use of poetic license.

Eminem made fun of a fukking dead paraplegic Christopher Reeve on relapse and nobody said shyt.Dude was spitting about fags and mutilating women bodies and no one batted a eye lash.

Its all right if its all white.

Like i said before...i remember Bill O'reily suggesting that family services see about taking his kids away, same bill o'reily that helped get luda's endorsement thrown in the bushes, and this was well after the whole shyt-storm of SSLP/MMLP, he caught plenty of hell over his lyrics.

As for relapse, eminem being a troll was not a secret by 2009. The whole point of the album in his own words was to "take it back to saying the craziest shyt he could think of".

Ross threw that rock and tried to hide his hands...he didn't mean for that line to be an attention grabber.
