Only seen clips of both. Pele is a legend, but I'm inclined to give it to Maradona since he did it in a more modern age. I'm no soccer historian tho.

Brazil won the 1962 World Cup easily despite losing Pele to injury early in the competition. They never really needed him... That's how much stronger they were compared to other teams :manny:
But Maradona took a VERY average (if not mediocre) team to glory in 1986. He's the only player who basically won the World Cup by himself.
- Argentina almost failed to qualify for that world cup (they got in thanks to a late goal in the final qualification game)
- They were not among the favorites when the World Cup started (France was the strongest team, followed by Brazil, Italy and Germany)... Argentina was never in the discussion.
- He was the only star on that team. They were just a strong defensive team with a genius free to do his thing.

Pele was a more complete player (physically stronger) but Maradona was inimitable with the ball on his feet :ohhh:

diego armando maradona without doubt

was a general more than a football player.....he played in Naples in 1984-1990 and for the first time we won 2 scudetti (championship) 1 italy cup and 1 european cup....it was incredible cause in italy north team are rich and win always....in italy in north are racist with italian of south and in stadium they called us" cholera " to insult us ....but when arrived maradona all racists of north was in silence ......in naples he is like god and in street there are little chapels with imagery of mary, jesus and maradona

Both were before my time. I prefer Pele tho from what I seen/read but what Maradona did in 86 was historic. He pretty much took his NT to glory nearly by himself (they had some talent but not championship talent. France, Germany & Brazil had way more business winning it than Argentina.
