Can you get more in depth on your story

Did you have a career plan early on? Did you do any kind of internships/co-ops? Are other folks you graduated with doing as well? Did you utilize social media at all to elevate your profile etc?

I love television and I knew that I wanted to work in production in some form or capacity, especially the creative side. I had three internships in college, the mayors office of film theater and broadcasting, MTV the best week ever and another local NY station. I'm not too sure if the folks I graduated with are doing well because I don't keep in touch with alot them. I tried to hook up a couple of my boys with jobs but one had something going on already and the other hadn't graduated yet. I got my job through some one I went to college with and he reached out to me and put me on. I'm not where I want to be by any means but I'm not hurting either.

So did doing more than one internship help you? Or would you say knowing people was a greater tool in getting you a job?

What would you all recommend for art majors. Go back to school for something else or just go broke die an starve :dead:

Figure out how to make money in that field, or get out of it.

College is cool for enlightenment but I think the days of going "just to find yourself" are long gone. 1 you can do that w/o a formal (and expensive) academic structure. 2 current economics just don't allow it. nikkas gotta eat :damn:

I would say that knowing people was a greater tool. But even though I got my current job through a classmate doesn't mean that internships are useless because he got his job from his internship. So basically knowing people might come through your internships and it also looks good on your resume, especially coming out of college.

this makes no sense to me, because then who are you faulting here? the people who HAVE REALISTIC OPTIONS OF TAKING THESE DEGREES? or The schools for offering them?

shouldnt the schools be at fault for making these courses available? knowing damn well they are a waste of time?

should this country then change its motto from freedom of education to being a robot constructed to do only 3 things?

should the american dream never be spoken of again since its a lie?

The schools shouldn't be at fault for anything, besides giving the kids all the info they need to make the right decisions.

The country's motto is not "freedom of education", and nobody is forced to be a "robot constructed to do only 3 things". Back in the days people used these degrees to get regular jobs anyway, so its not even like someone with an art degree is automatically the next Da Vinci. Theres only so much demand for art teachers and museum directors

And the American dream is what its always been. The ability to capitalize on opportunity. shyt has never come easy here bruh. You always had to work for it.

Word eh. I don't know about the job market down there but up here in Canada it's hard breh. Then again, I finished my internship before the holidays and now I'm in my 2nd week of job hunting, fingers crossed, throwing hail mary's and shyt. Thinking I should hook up with a friend from College and try and see if I could make my way and make a connection to a job or some sort.

how are the schools not at fault for giving students the opportunity to take these courses? Nobody is going to be an art major, if there is no art in the curriculum to choose from...

hard work is not predicated on a major, hard work is based on whether you have work ethic or not.

if the schools are the ones with the information, why dont they inform their facuty that certain majors are useless? why dont they hold seminars telling students they should focus on the sciences and math? instead of the other useless majors? why arent there more efforts from the schools to cut down on irrelevant needs to the current society?

they are the ones at fault for producing the medium...a human being is wired to gravitate to their comfort zone...no one should be surprised a person who likes art wants to learn art, especially if its compared to organic chemistry.

Exhaust all of your resources including all of your contacts. Don't just send out your resume and expect people to call.

I doubt American companies are going turn away Asians for a glut of unmotivated, greedy, subpar American engineers.

I don't think getting rid of the art major is the answer. There are still artists and there is still value in art studies. The way it is structured just lends it to being more of a copout than a legitimate field.

Some majors are objectively harder than others bruh.

Its not on the school to make the decisions/form the opinions of its faculty/student body. They are just there to provide info and guide students to the decisions they have to make on their own.

And yes, people basically do like to take the path of least resistance. But that doesnt mean society should enable them :wtf: Plus choosing the path of least resistance now generally makes things much more difficult in the future. THAT'S the info colleges need to be pushing on these kids.
