gentification is way less about race than it is money.

I know people will argue this though.

So, true. I don't accept people like Spike Lee complaining, results are the only thing that matter. Its 2014, we have to be done with excuses Spike Lee. Even the Mexicans are running the blacks out of Compton. :wtf:

I've witnessed us stay losing for as long as I've been breathing, I feel no sorrow.

:snoop:... You'll see sooner or later if theyu keep with construction there's gonna be no place for the poor and struggling and disenfranchised. the same shyt is gonna happen here in NYC just like San Francisco... it will be horrible. Just imagine a studio 3,000 a month, with no amenities. except heat and electricity and sometimes you wont even get that if you dont come outta pocket.

i don't get why dudes like spike lee didn't buy up property in those neighbourhoods if they were so concerned about it being changed. Im sure at some point in spike lee's life he and people he knew could have gotten together a bunch of money and made a self sacrifice and bought a bunch of property there. In the early 90's those places were probably broken down and cheap, by now they could have put something together to improve the community and help people stay there, they didn't now others have moved in and bought it and turned it into their vision, something spike lee and whoever else should have already done years ago.

I dont think in anyone in their right mind would let a rich black man buy up rental properties en masse and not try to fukk with the deals. I can just imagine it now. Spike lee wont let white people move into the black neighborhood it's reverse racism. they play the race card when it's convenient for them. I dont see them fukking with the Jewish enclaves that shyt in bed stuy tho, now do I?

Say what you want but i rather deal with hipsters than hood niqqaz.

There doesn't have to be extremes to everything. There's a balance.

If was just announced the average rent for a studio in Fort Greene is $2450.

$2450:stopitslime:

I can rent a white glove doorman highrise studio in Manhattan for $2450. And you see no problem with what is happening to Brooklyn?

My main issue with gentrification is the soulless cacs that move in have no identity. Anybody that spend time in Fort Greene back in the day knows how much flavor they had there. Mad artists, jazz musicians, African style... Great food spots like night of the cookers, slam poetry. Just an incredible vibe. Soon as the cacs move in all that is lost. Now all you are left with is coffee shop, thrift shop, Asian fusion restaurant, people walking dogs, a bunch of homo and soulless cacs. Everything becomes homogenized brehs. All that flavor is lost. That to me is the worst part.

Spike went in, he spoke 100% truth. I'll be damned if some new hipster is going to move into my hood and try to tell me I can't do something i've been doing since 1968. What pisses me off is that North Jersey is feeling the effects of it too. The hipsters who can't squeeze into nyc are trying to take over here in certain parts. It shouldn't cost 1,000,000 dollars to live in Hoboken.

I'm a little confused how gentrification works. How is it they are capable of removing you from your home if you own it?

They dont own it... or, if they do... the property taxes become to high for them to afford to live in the area. due to the growth of it.

So either the rent, or taxes become unaffordable

Atleast, thats what ive gathered.

but if the property tax goes up, that means the real estate goes up, so they should be able to sell their home and make a very good profit and move into an upscale neighborhood no?

does this mean the burbs will have a black flight? if so, does this mean black people can follow the examples of the white flight of the 70s and turn their communities into thriving suburban communities?
