What do you define as "success" & "failure" for a black man? Hard to have a conversation about this if we don't know where everybody stands.

it was a time in history where brothers reminded each other we the same
nowadays nikkas love seperatin theyselves from they own people
look at this website and how they talk

on one hand, you got people thats educated career wise, got good money, good job

but they quick to shyt on the person who not as fortunate

imo if you able to walk amongst your people and get respect as well as give resepct without sellin out..thats a start imo on being successful

aot of successful black dudes left the black community and never came back

True, To me success is building a legacy which can be passed down to another genneration. It's a strong emphasis on education to achieve economic independence. To break out of the habit of hoodrichness and keeping with the jones and establish something positive to be proud of in a society which praises the negative. It's a mentality which doesn't normalize the negative and embraces it.

That is my definition of success. It may not be for others.

When people say the bold where the fukk do they think these people go? Everytime I hear this is like cats think dudes just moved to Mars or some shyt. Why stay esp if you live in an area that you think is not reflective of what your are about but didn't have the means before? I guess cause cats sometimes move to "white" neighborhoods but if there was more places like the Atl I think cats would do that too. I guess thats why I dont see the big deal and add to that sometimes when you (could even be your friends/fam) go in different directions its hard at times to stay the same. Its just life.

no. women like to talk and express their feelings more than men. so if something bothers a black woman she's going to want to talk and express her feelings. men try to keep things in more, but that doesn't mean the black man is accepting that the judgments he receives are facts.

I agree. Alot of black people when they get money they move to the greener side of the pastures, and that includes ya favorite rappers who gained fame and money from promoting the very same negativity which plague black folks.

Now on the same token I need you to admit that we as a culture as shun those who made it through education and innovation while glamorising those who went the rap game and athlete way.

However what we all do wheteher rich or pour is invest our money out of our community because being associted with whites is seen as the model of success. Once we learn to invest internally than collectively we will rise. But that need we need to combat mediocrity alltoghether.

Similar to what some others have said in this thread, quite a few black men have an external locus of control. For those men, it just seems so easy to throw them off their game. As soon as something goes wrong, instead of trying harder, many will be like "f-it" and settle for less because they truly believe that they can't change their circumstance.

As a former teacher, I have seen many black males with so much potential. They were freaking gifted; however, they succumbed to pressure from friends who weren't doing well and had already given up. The thing that makes it really tough for this group is that their "bad influences" are the type of influences that can land them in serious trouble with the law. In more subruran environments "bad influences" will probably lead to a lot of drunken night and maybe some illicit drug use, but many from the "bottom of the barrel" in high income environments still land the same postitions as some of the black men at the "top of the barrel" in low income environments.

A lot of it also has to do with parenting. Parents need to get their children out of these environments. Even if it takes years of hard work and you don't do it until your children are in middle or high school, do it because your children are going to end up like a lot of their peers (good or bad).

and why do they do this? because they uppity c00ns who want to be white? or because they were often outcast from the black community because they were lame, nerdy?

lol naw man you know that excuse dont work wit me

imo i think crack fukked up alot of the black community
it did the same thing slavery did...seperate the man from the household, make the woman the head of the household as well as feel sorry for the blackman in a childish kind of way
thats why you see black women havin no problem takin care of aint shyt nikka...subconsiously they feels orry for the man and at the same time carry on the "independent" mindset knowin damn well every woman need a real nikka in her life...its natural but at some point it got fukked up

also the black people that got positions of power( distributor, financiers, investors) people higher up dont do shyt for us

everything in the black community is a franchise or national chain nothing privately owned....drive from the hood to the suburbs you will see a drastic change in businesses ....who fault is that? we dont make or produce shyt

but look on forbes and see all type of ceos and owners to shyt thats black.
they all in positions of power in avenues that has nothing to do with the direct benefit of the black community...if it does...they dont work in the best interest of us

I feel for ya boy breh. As a people we have the odds set against us from jump street. Has he tried applying for financial aid. There are may scholarships out there. If he from florida they got the Bright futures program. I paid for school my own damn sel too at 1st. He can also join the military and do 4 and get out and get some school money. Not saying he should but that's an option.

I did a google search and found this website. He gone have to go out there and fund his education bc again the odds are set against him so he has to fight against it.
