not counting the people that are anxious for a reason to criticize pac, i'd say that 9 times out of 10, most people that are negative on this album are people who didnt get heavy into rap until years after the fact.

this was a hot album. a good 4 mics at least. i listen to it just as much as any of his other '91-96 albums besides 7 day theory. was it a classic? no. but there seems to be no in-between with some of you.

you got people in here saying that this album was irrelevant because it wasnt on chronic/doggystyle levels.:rudy:

and yea, like the homie said, its certainly on par and/or better than most of the albums of recent years that many of you try to champion as classics on here.

I wouldn't call em wack be i've maintained that his first two don't stack up to Nas, BIG, Jay, Ra, KRS, Cube, Red and a few others. Hell, Can I Borrow a Dollar and Resurrection

This is interesting people say that because I think his debut is criminally underrated.

Young Black Male
Trapped
Soulja's Story
I Don't Give a fukk
Violent
Brenda's Got a Baby
Rebel of the Underground

Fukk it this album is damn near a classic.

Just another example of why 91 was so dope.

Yeah... that album was nowhere near great or even good for that matter. It had some flashes that suggested that he was capable of making great music, but as a whole it was lacking. The standouts were great- Brenda, If My Homies Call, Violent, Soulja's Story... and that's really about it, the rest is pretty much take or leave. A lot of the production was weak even for the time and even worse as time has passed... and as a rapper, I don't think Pac had really found his voice yet. You could hear that he had something... it just wasn't all there yet. And Strictly 4 My nikkaz was the same way, but he was starting to come into his own a little more on that one. He still had a lot random shyt on there, but the standouts were the songs that made him a star and really gave him a presence. I'm willin' to bet the best songs on there were probably made closer to the end of the recording process... cause you can still hear the 2Pacalypse Pac on a good half of it like 'Get The Finga', 'Last Wordz', etc., but then you hear the Pac with a style and flow on 'Papaz Song', 'Keep Ya Head Up', 'I Get Around', etc.

Listening to Pac albums in order is like a progression- he goes from an OK MC with no real musical direction on most of the first two albums, to a total package by the time Me Against The World came out... then he was kinda able to do a lil' of everything on All Eyez On Me... and then did his best lyrical work (with arguably the best production he ever had) on the Makaveli album. At the rate he was going, I think the album after that one woulda been :mindblown:

the black cat is my crown...
i put this on the yesterday and can't believe how much hate it's receiving ... people think all eyez on me was some type of genius recording but 2pacalypse now is straight ass cheeks... :pachaha:

in fact, i'm goin' to take it a bit iller... i like 2pac's run from 2pacalypse now through me against the world better than his all eyez on me/death row run (minus 7 day theory)...

pac came in the game dope and left out the game dope... that's all i got to say....

*cranks up violent/appreciates pac's most bumping song*

2Pacalyspe to me,
Was what if,
Death Certificate,
And,
illMatic,
Both blended together.

If My Homies Call,
Soulja,
America's Nightmare,
Breanda.

The Intro reminds of the Intro to illMatic.

His subject matter was bar none dope.
He covered many topics.

The thing about that album,
It dipicted the steeze and sound of the late 80's,
It was the last of its kind before the emerging sounds of the 90's.

The thing about Pac,
He could switch up his style and fit in with the times,
Most rappers or your favorites cannot do that.

Why do people keep saying this. 2Pacolypse now was very dope and to me is a classic. That shyt had more than a few bangers. If you say it was dated fair enough but far from wack. Young Black Male, I Don't Give a fukk, Souljas Story, Brenda etc. You kinda had to be there to appreciate it fully.

Just because it's not the best or most talked about Pac album, doesn't mean it's not classic. It has classic songs that are arguably better than most songs on other rappers' debut albums. Also, it inspired many rappers who hadn't come out yet at that point such as Nas and Outkast. Add to that the Dan Quayle controversy and based on its influence alone it is a classic album. It's just that people feel it is too much to call Pac's first 2 albums classic 'cause that would mean all of his albums pre-death are classic basically.
But if you compare 2Pacalypse Now and S4MN to other albums that people call classic now such as College Dropout and what not, it's crazy to deny that Pac's albums are at least as impactful or good as those. So why are they not classics? Because Pac already has three more famous classics?
2Pacalypse Now is what Nas tried to emulate in a 2000's version, only Pac's album dropped right at the right time at the height of tensions between black people and authorities (With the Rodney King situation and everything). Also it dropped right on the verge of the transition of the old school hip hop sound to the more modern 'new school' sound and is one of the few albums to have a bit of both in them. That alone makes it a unique and important album.

Brenda's Got A Baby
Soulja's Story
Part Time Mutha
If My Homie Calls
Trapped
Words of Wisdom
Violent

These are all classic Pac tracks and they make up more than half the album.
And the other ones aren't bad by any means either..

It's easily Pac's most overlooked record but it's definitely a classic album in its own right..

I still like S4MN more though.
:wow:

Couldn't have said that better

its was so many other good rappers to listen to at that time 2pac singles was only poppin at that time.Nobody was really bumpin a whole 2pac album back then.NWA,Spice 1,C-Bo,The Click.CMW,TooShort and many other West Coast rappers had better albums than pac at that time.it wasnt till the movie Juice came out and Pac started acting like Bishop then getting into trouble his music really took off.

No,
It was until he got beaten by the cops,
Them assuming he was jay walking.
You have to add in the fact,
Rodney king got beaten a few weeks earlier,
Then the L.A. Riots happen,
Who wouldn't want to wild out and and be a menace in public,
He had ever right to backlash at society.
