Yeah it's cool to switch it up.
But us dre fans out here fiending for another chronic album
I understand that, but Dre is 1 of those guys who's doesn't try to repeat what he's already done, which is why when he comes back there's always another sound he's trying to master.
The Chronic is timeless, but we "been there, done that". And don't get me wrong, The Chronic is timeless, a masterpiece. Arguably the greatest Hip Hop album of all time. shyt, I still listen to The Chronic probably at least once a week! lol
But it was time for him to do something different; for his own sake and artistic merit.
(Chronic) 2001 is another album that's still in rotation from time to time. A classic. But it once again, it was time to turn to another chapter in his musical book.
It had been 16 years since a Dre album and instead of him being predictable and coming back with something from 1999, he came back with something new and different for better or for worse. It's always about moving forward with the music and trying new things in music.
If he would've come back with a 2001 or Chronic sound, people would have quickly wrote him off as "stuck in the past" or a relic.
But Dre is always about finding new talent and finding a common ground where it works for him as a producer and for the artists and musicians he works with.
