It all boils down to the evolution of the points pretty much all being combo guards.

Gotdamn though, I love discussions here it's always crazy though cause it sounds like some of yall been watching ball since rookie Wilt--type old lol

It makes more sense if you watch YouTube highlights of high school games.

You see every guard come down pass to nobody and pullup a jumper after dribbling around for 10 seconds. Over and over.

Why be the guy standing over there waiting for somebody to give you the ball?? :dame:

You might as well call him daddy

Get your handles up and get numbers :blessed:

He's probably actually 6'3. He came from the era when they used your actual height, not your height in shoes plus some. Kobe is actually a little over 6'4, not 6'6. Russell was listed at 6'9 and look at him with the "6'11" Tim Duncan as an old man mind you.

So to that point those guys I listed are anywhere in the 6'1-6'3 range.

Wade not at that level anymore, jimmy just below them tbh. I know he had 50 last game but he still behind demar and klay.

Jimmy plays the 3 this year but he's clearly better than derozen and klay :mjlol:

7mile to SE & Uptown!
Smitty had athletic ability in HS. Injuries took away that from him.
Well yeah but the main thing was once he got to State he ended up having to score wayyyyy more than he did in High School and he pretty much never looked back. Hell because of that he ended up have a much longer career than he would have if he had to play solely on ball :ehh:

Steve Smith is talking crazy.

The 2guard position was only an elite position during the Jordan-Kobe eras. In the NBA's history, its always been the small forward as the dominant wing position.

You could argue the 2guard was the least important position until Jordan.

Kobe still has West by 2 inches, but Kobe was never 6'7". He is leaning on West.

Klay also had West by a few inches in that pic as well.

For the record, Jerry West woulda been a better version of DWade in today's NBA. He has ridiculously long arms and big hands and had great athleticism. He could also shoot. (west played small forward a lot as well, while elgin baylor played power forward)

Kobe, T-Mac, Vince, Ray Allen...

Durant, Harden, Butler, Klay...

Kinda just feels like semantics to an extent in what gets labeled a "this or that" in this era vs the recent past. B/c star wing players have had a type of 'position malleability' for a bit now.

i.e. Vince was listed as a 6'6 SF his first 3 years in Toronto, then a 6'6 SG his last three years there. Essentially jackin up the same amount/type of shots.
T-Mac switched back and forth from a 6'8 SF to a 6'8 SG every couple years, but his game stayed essentially the same
Harden is a 6'5 PG now leading the league in assists and playing the role of Steve Nash on crack. Before that he was a straight up SG.
Durant is a 6'9 SF.. but obviously he has the shooting ability and skillset to do pretty much anything a SG can.
Butler has alternated between listed as a 6'7 SG and 6'7 SF in his career
Kawhi, 6'7, was a spot up 3 pt gunner last year, nearly led the league and was better than the 6'6 Danny Green who was his SG.

So you still have your more conventional star SGs (Ray/Klay) but you still also have your transcendent types that can be labeled whatever you need them to be, based on your team's need/convenience.
