Hell there have been great stories about it like "what happened to Truth, Justice and the American way."

The way you are phrasing it, I’m guessing you believe there was a time where he was unintentionally corny? If so, would the only distinction between intentionality be other characters calling him out on that? His core hasn’t changed, people’s perception of him (whether that be characters as you mentioned or real life) has.

it is a better DCEU film than it is a superman movie. after the first watch I think MoS is better. also possibly behind superman the movie.

the real issues for me were 1. too much james gunn stuff 2. too convoluted plot 3. little character development 4. few cinematic highs and 5. (and most significant) lack of sci-fi wonderment.

the way the sci-fi elements were presented was all a bit mundane.

no wonderment,

no mythos.

major turning points were presented in a run of the mill fashion.
