Based on this post, it seems like Superman Returns would be more of your speed. Finally saw it and I did not like it at all. Whole thing was over the top ridiculous.
Only good character was the dog.
I guess the first two Reeves superman movies would be too slow and boring for todays audiences.
I saw that when it came out and the only thing I can remember about it was the airplane scene, very forgettable movie. I thought MOS had potential but the sequels got worse.Based on this post, it seems like Superman Returns would be more of your speed.
Definitely not a popular opinion lol.
Well, it's supposed to feel that way. That was the point. We're jumping into a pre-established universe (story-wise).I saw that when it came out and the only thing I can remember about it was the airplane scene, very forgettable movie. I thought MOS had potential but the sequels got worse.
This one felt like it was part 5 of a franchise instead of part one. We got the Justice gang, Lex can build pocket universes, a superdog, Lois Lane flying ships and she's already dating superman, nanobyte girl, the clone, Lex's weird plan and his videogame attacks, magical creatures n shyt... wtf man

Not even just cool they are really good friends![]()

I think that Nolan Batman movies have distorted the public perception of the tone of comic book material. Comic books have always had humor in them (it's why they're called comic books). Some lay the humor on thick, Deadpool, Spider-Man, Squirrel Girl, some use a more dry humor, Superman, Batman, Daredevil. It's wasn't until Frank Miller and Alan Moore started writing in the 80s that some comics were being written with a more stoic tone, but even after that period writers started adding humor back into it.
For the most part, if you don't like humor, comics aren't that genre for you.
You realize 1966 Batman under Adam West was a parody that was a worldwide phenomenon.
Quips and lighthearted are engrained in superhero fiction. It’s multigenerational
Yea I’m sure you don’t want to hear this but I’m afraid you watched it wrong. Comic book movies are not supposed to be super serious aimed at adults only. They are for kids and adults. Always have been. Those Nolan Batman films were great but let’s not get carried away, these are family movies.
This movie didn't even have that many quippy jokes.Humor and jokes are fine. I get that not all movies have to be super serious. I think my problem is with the type of humor. There's this quippy Deadpool/Peter Parker/Flash one liner thing that gets really annoying very quickly. It works with certain characters.. it works with certain movies.. but it can't be everyone all the time. There was a time movies had a single comic relief character. Now it seems like every character is the comic relief. Every character is a smart ass. Every scene has to cut to silence with some dead pan joke. Some of the funniest movie scenes are people having an ordinary conversation.
Gunn definitely has a groove of humor he likes but I also think it’s partly because we as an audience consume so much of the same material.Humor and jokes are fine. "DAILY PLANET SHOWS LUTHOR WAS BEHIND THE FALSE IMAGES OF SUPERMAN'S PARENTS' MESSAGE CLAIMING...."
So either the Daily Planet is covering for Superman, or James Gunn is pulling our leg with his public statements?
I'm betting (and hoping) on the latter and we'll learn more in Supergirl or some other DCU project![]()
