Why even compare the two? The Marsha song is a deliberate bedroom/babymaking joint. The SZA song is mocking how thirsty dudes are. Two completely different points they're making. If a male R&B singer made the same joint SZA made it would be seen as clever

I guess to some, I'm not into my r&b being that explicit :yeshrug:

Actually dude is right that song is very clever I just don't like the cursing .

She's actually talking about all these so call real nikkas the ones that don't deserve you .

She even brings up forest gump and Jenny was ready to risk it all and forest ain't never even ask for the p*ssy .

The concept is pretty dope honestly .

It's not one of those fake deep songs I really liked her approach .

She's basically like pay attention to the nikkas that ain't pressing you to fukk . Their might be something special there .

I really dont know why yall nikkas hate on this girl so much.... Yall sound like some hoes.
Anyway she is nothing like Tinashe. The only similarity between Tinashe and SZA is they are both females, and that's where it ends.. Other than that, no similarities.

SZA has a strong female & male base.. she got the shae butter "woke" females, and the wanna-be different hipster females... she got the nikkas off the strength she is attractive. Also her music is dope (haven't heard her most recent shyt).

If anything I'd understand you comparing her to Janelle Monae... cause she's a lot of hype, and a lot of fake "woke" females listen to her... but the difference bewtween SZA and Janelle is... SZA got some dope songs... Janelle's music is TRASH. Everyone knows it, but for some reason nobody says it.

Y'all don't know good music at all .

One of the dopest songs I've heard in life .

This one was off her first unofficial album .

Y'all talk About love songs :whew:.

jhene is the last female to go thru a more "traditional" roll out, mixtapes/EP's to build her base, followed by a stream of placements on various rapper's projects - drake, sean, kendrick, soul, chris brown, etc. it seems to have paid off. she also has music that appeals to a wider age bracket which helps as well, more people to listen to/buy your music.
Oh for real? I don't keep up with Jhené Aiko's music, so I wasn't sure if she had a following. I mostly know her guest appearances & being associated with other artists.

As far as the hits, honestly that part is damn near irrelevant. First of all look at the thread you're posting in, it's obvious image has way more to do with female artists success than music. Rihanna's music is mostly label manufactured and ghostwritten for her. So let's kill the idea right now that Rihanna is in the position purely from music or talent. The whole reason I mentioned Keri Hilson is proof that it's not about music since she's written hits for multiple artists while her own career struggled. Ciara had hits, Alicia Keys had hits, Ashanti had hits. But Rihanna lapped them and the likes of Mary J and Mariah Carey in the span of a couple years.

@
Kenny West you sound silly right now. Not only that but you actually didn't help your argument and actually supported the opposing argument. You mention Ciara, Alicia and Ashanti also having hits. Well obviously Rihanna stood out in some way to be unique. She is a pop icon for a reason. I do not know what is with this bad habit of someone getting big and people always wanna throw hate and dont throw props.

"Yo yall heard about that Pon De Replay singer....i see big things for her i like her so much man"

"Yo that good girl gone bad album is so overrated son. I liked her before when she was broke and not making money. But now that she big i hate her " :shaq2:

Ok Rihanna doesn't write...its the same situation with the women you just named. Even if Rihanna had a better group of writers the same thing still applies. You still have to be different in some way to become a pop icon in the first place. Obviously her unique voice set her apart enough to be known worldwide

Saying her music is "label manufactured" if you are implying her brand is what is making her music pop is one of the most idiotic statements i have ever heard if that is what you are saying. That argument could be used more for Beyonce. Sometimes it seems as if the beyonce brand is forcing someone to like a song. That is true label manufactured. Whereas with Rihanna her versatile style even if you are not a fan of her causes her songs to be stuck in your head. She is more melodic. And this whole not writing thing people overhype it. Besides the obvious fact that alot of female artists are not writing.....they also downplay how the artist themselves have imput. I'm sure some like Rihanna have helped with changing a certain line or two or helped with choruses.

And by the way you mention Mary J but see is someone who actually loves Rihanna and has talked about how iconic and culturally she has been for this generation and has alot of respect for her.

You still need the VOICE for these hits and you are downplaying that. Guys think any other singer could have song these song and had these hits. That isn't alwways true. So obviously Rihanna had her role to play too in her success

Dudes have this real annoying habit of throwing out a random obscure name to say they are better than a mainstream person just to be contrary for the sake of being contrary.

"Yo i keep telling yall nikkas steak is overrated yall sleeping on eating sand from the beach"

SZA is wack as hell and so is Tinashe(the current version) just because they are lesser known than a Rihanna doesn't mean their music is good just cause of that

And since we are at it SZA and Tinashe are not better than Beyonce either.

Coli always acts like it's impossible to enjoy more than one artist. I fukk with Tinashe, SZA and Janelle.

Favorite current female singer is still FKA Twigs but I know she's too weird for a lot of people

I'm surprised that the Wu hasnt said anything about her calling herself SZA. Isn't that a violation?

Ghost already approached her and explained the importance of being original while Rae was in the background co signing how being original will make you a better man.

lol, but nah not that its their place to do so but at least rza seems cool with it. i was heavily anticipating something from rza on the album after seeing this. kinda disappointed with that

People in this thread keep saying this, but can anyone provide any examples of hotep faux woke lyrics from SZA? I've listening to her since her early mixtapes and never got that vibe.

that part! sometimes it was hard for me to interpret but she always seemed to be singing about love and pain. maybe it was the supreme alphabet name and big curly hair that made people assume she was afrocentric or woke.

No reason why this song couldn't be a hit if marketed right

Anyway I like the album a lot. SZA did a better job making a mainstream album without watering down her artistry then Tinashe did imo

sounds like some shyt Rihanna would toss in a "deluxe" album when it's time to do a cash grab for a few more sale. Joint is meh to me

The pro black, fake deep slut angle is getting old

This. But the shea butter crowd will eat it after after playing Solange's album into oblivion and call anyone who think's otherwise a hater. None of this shyt resonates AT ALL. I can't rock with this female Bryson Tiller slowed down trap beat bullshyt that literally all sounds the same. Zero emotion, zero themes, trash lyrics, and zero replay value. And cats wonder why so much 90s shyt STILL gets spins these days. It's not because heads are old, it's just that they actually wanna heat some shyt they can rock with.

and that "ZA" name is corny. Smoke DZA gets a pass, but the only "ZA" I wanna hear is Genius and Bobby Digital

Where are the trap beats on this album? At the most there might be one or two that could barely qualify.

She did say that TDE changed the whole sound of her album and went in a different direction when she was almost done

She didn't sound too happy or confident about the album in her interviews last week

Personally I like this album more than her old shyt

She has a few songs that have a chance to be good singles like Broken Clocks,The Weekend, and Garden

Sonically I hope she stays in this lane

Her subject matter will expand as she gets older and grows a little

After two weeks with the album i do have a few favourites(broken clock, garden supermodel) but i stand by my first impression.Sonically it's a good album, she needs to stay in that lane as far as the music goes.Subject matter i still feel that she has way more growing to do but that has to come from experience.Hope she gets more writing done for other artists outside her own genre, that will help in the long run..not really a comparison but when i lsten to Solange's album it's way more layered and mature in every way, that album will influence a lot of kids in the near future
