Let's not put people in a box though. I know plenty of shea butter chicks who have a ratchet side and vice versa. I mean Erykah is seen as the poster child for the incense and "natural" crowd yet she's also hood as fukk lol.

But yeah besides Beyonce and Rihanna it's pretty much Kehlani and Solange lowkey as far as current popular black female singers. I do think the black girl from 5th Harmony has a chance at making some noise if she goes solo though

After two weeks with the album i do have a few favourites(broken clock,garden supermodel) but i stand by my first impression.Sonically it's a good album,she needs to stay in that lane as far as the music goes.Subject matter i still feel that she has way more growing to do but that has to come from experience.Hope she gets more writing done for other artists outside her own genre,that will help in the long run..not really a comparison but when i lsten to Solange's album it's way more layered and mature in every way,that album will influence a lot of kids in the near future

Never has come close to what SZA did first week. In fact her last album debuted at 89 on the Hot 200 chart...

SZA actually has a fanbase and released an album that has been well received. She can tour. She can do festivals. Tinashe's career is dead.

SZA is also positioned to do a big mainstream album next, if she wants. She's succeeding where nearly every black female artist outside of Beyonce/Rihanna have failed. Built a loyal fanbase, doing festivals, radio and critical success, etc...who else is winning like that? Jhene Aiko was for a bit but has kinda faded.
