Listened to her album the other day. Just wasn't good. She reminds of a D level Jhene Aiko Clone. That silly faux hotep deep nonsense. And she literally sings the same way on every song

People in this thread keep saying this, but can anyone provide any examples of hotep faux woke lyrics from SZA? I've listening to her since her early mixtapes and never got that vibe.

All i know is...

The Coli needs to learn the difference between sensuality and smut.

Its crazy that as soon as a female artist starts introducing more sexual elements into their profile, they're instantly demonized as sluts/selling sex.

Like....women like to be sexy and like to get fukked too brehs :manny:

Not to mention, female commercial artists are under pressure to CONSTANTLY reinvent themselves. Not only to stay relevant to their aging loyalists, but also to try and catch the newer generation of potential fans. This may come as a shocker but relating to the sexual maturation into womanhood is something women are into. As men Its something we cannot begin to fathom.

We do ourselves no favors of shedding the "we hate women with ANY SEXUAL AGENCY!!!" :birdman: label that hip hop forums have.

Especially since nikkas are quiet as church mice when "Ive been a rapper since i was 11" Lil wayne is rapping about hoping off the boat meeting "Papi "at the dock :martin:

Yeah I mean if ya'll ain't feeling the actual music that's one thing but I'm shocked at the amount of people in this thread who are mad about the sexual lyrics. What are ya'll, church counselors or something? Women are fukking and like to fukk. It is what it is

One of the fewer "newer" female acts who seem to have a competent team providing her push.
jhene is the last female to go thru a more "traditional" roll out, mixtapes/EP's to build her base, followed by a stream of placements on various rapper's projects - drake, sean, kendrick, soul, chris brown, etc. it seems to have paid off. she also has music that appeals to a wider age bracket which helps as well, more people to listen to/buy your music.

come on man...a lot of us grew up listening to r&b before it needed explicit lyric stickers because it's as vulgar as rap. no one is saying don't be sexual, but you can do it without singing about your p*ssy.

this is a sexy song

this is vulgar

Good observations. Very true.

I think sza would've done better keeping classy, there's a market/loyal fanbase for soulful artists, the "mainstream" r&b lane is fickle if not dead, like i don't know why she's trying to swerve into it. She's trying to be both and it's isolating what could be a bigger core group of fans. She should at least have the solange buzz

Hopefully she switches up again once she gets her name out there. Otherwise, OP might have a point; this shyt ain't got that longevity unless you go that EXTRA Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj type route. Remember the garbage Nicki was dressing when she was first blowin' up? Hopefully, she doesn't go that extra, just gets a LOOK then tones down.

This somes up Tinashe lol

She was trending on twitter today because she tried to say in an interview that the reason she wasn't popping was because of the competition among black artist. She believes the way it is Beyonce or Rihana are like the only two real black singers who people seriously support. She is partially correct but the real reason she is not supported is because he music stinks. It's simple pop generic bullshyt.

Why even compare the two? The Marsha song is a deliberate bedroom/babymaking joint. The SZA song is mocking how thirsty dudes are. Two completely different points they're making. If a male R&B singer made the same joint SZA made it would be seen as clever

I guess to some, I'm not into my r&b being that explicit :yeshrug:
