shea butter music is an underrated lane.

white people aint supporting black women pop stars like that unless you're rihanna or beyonce. plus they would rather support white women that do their best impression of r&b.

tinashe really has yet to win over black women or women in general. "2 on" had a little buzz in the club but then she got lost in the sauce after that. the only time she gets mentioned is when thirsty nikkas like dj akademiks bring her up.

sza seems to be getting more love from black women, and she should try to pander to that more.
Can't. Black woman checking in and we consider Tinashe just as black as Kehlani. Of course I'm just speaking for my friends but we buy music, go to concerts, and have debates for hours on new music. We're also in LA so we hear a slew of stuff first. She (Tinashe) does not have a loyal large BLACK girl fan base. The very best she could do is pull a Zendaya and speak up about her light skinned privilege. That'll gain her some. I know for a fact most of my friends are SZA fans because she is brown skinned woman and has kinky hair. Something that isn't popping enough. I bought the album merely off that and Love Galore

Let's not put people in a box though. I know plenty of shea butter chicks who have a ratchet side and vice versa. I mean Erykah is seen as the poster child for the incense and "natural" crowd yet she's also hood as fukk lol.

But yeah besides Beyonce and Rihanna it's pretty much Kehlani and Solange lowkey as far as current popular black female singers. I do think the black girl from 5th Harmony has a chance at making some noise if she goes solo though

And it especially may continue to be those two even into the 2020s if Rihanna improves her vocal skills even more and becomes even more of a threat.

the day we do finally get a new mainstream star in black music on the female end my prediction is that its gonna be someone that does Afro Beat..i think that is gonna be the new thing. People in America will be looking for something new after years of doing R&B and rehashing it in different ways with the trap sound..

We will be like....well we have run out of new genres to create so let us bring this movement of AfroBeat over from the motherland here in the states and it will shake the industry up.. Like i said i don't think this will be any time soon and i kind of expect these two to continue in the 2020s unless something happens to either :whoa:

But when their time is up......then this is what i think will be the new movement. And i hate to say "time is up" but i only say that cause we know women in music don't like to have more than two stars at a time on a mainstream level.

AfroBeat is gonna be the future wave...

Yeah Tinashe seems like a real nice chick but something is just missing from her. And even if she did have the "it" factor i still wouldn't feel the same pride since she is not fully black...so i can see what you are saying.

At least Rihanna is Black...also was something fresh being a singer that came from a specific island and even if she was lackluster earlier in her career before she blew up always seemed to have an it factor in her.

Tinashe i don't see nothing at all.

I see what you saying about SZA but we also gotta be honest the album wasn't that good.

Tinashe is done....Didnt her label or Management give a couple a couple of Songs off the Joyride album to Rihanna? She will forever be known as the 2 on girl. Her Signing to a major is what killed her career when she didnt have to.

Sza on the other hand still has a slim chance of hope of blowing up but TDE is ran by a bonehead that has no clue what he doing. At the sametime TDE lets SZA have Creative control and develop as an Artist something i bet Tinashe wished she could do. I only heard a few Songs off the SZA album but they we're all dope imo. Her songwriting is really Good and she has a nice Voice but i dont know she will breakout and reach Beyonce or Rihanna level. Its very difficult för black female R&Bsters to get out of that box they stuck in these days. They gotta have pop appeal and i dont think SZA has that in her to transcend like that. Her music is for a niche crowd

Ol girl needs to realize she's just not destined to be a Beyonce or Rihanna level star, go the independent route and stick with that atmospheric, introspective R&B that her small but dedicated fanbase loves. Because the mainstream ain't feeling her pop songs and it only alienates her core fanbase

yeah i don't get why she doesnt.. i mean she is gonna make more $ working independent rather than working with mainstream labels anyway..

until B and R are done there is not any room for any of these black artists in the pop field..

tinashe should just work for herself and leave it at that...its like she is addicted to keep trying to force the issue.

shyt she can become a personality through something like complex since thirsty dudes wanna see her all the time and release music on the side

I'm shocked that nobody mentioned the biggest problem that these two chicks have.

r&b singers whose fanbases are primarily made up of non-urban rap fans.

I thought that's what this thread was gonna be all about actually.

I can see SZA blowing up tho, if TDE has any clue on how to work an r&b artist.

As boneheaded as Top Dawg is, even if he was more like LA Reid he still would not be able to make her a star. LA Reid himself could not make her a star. I'm telling you guys i dont wanna be a broken record and repeat their names but the two women running the game right now stop things like that from happening. which is not hate on them btw... you cant help that and its not your fault you are that big

all i can see is if these two women decide to make their own labels and start trying to push Black R&B female artists as their proteges and heir to the thrones or even Black pop artists.

We have had Black male rappers or singers do this but women almost never do the protege thing...u notice that? :mjpls:

and also there is a rumor out there taylor swift's upcoming album is gonna be R&B influenced..yes u read that right taylor swift. again just a rumor but imagine when that happens and how annoying the industry gets pushing that and it gets even that much harder for women like SZA

SZA should say fukk it and sign to Roc Nation. Top Dawg is an idiot and still runs his label like he is in the streets.

A man who actually robbed a KFC and was about to kill Kendrick's dad over chicken cannot be counted on for rational decisions.

The writing is on the wall

-Sexy attractive girl
-Average artist
-Popularity pushed hard by their labels, not able to build a fanbase
-Has a majority male fanbase you all wanna fukk her
-Pushes her sexuality even more to get fans but it ends up not working

:snoop:

Still sexy as fukk though :takedat:
[/QUOTE]

Tinashe can sing and write songs.... she built a fanbase with her tapes
It's the label that is forcing her to try make another "2 On" when she'd rather make abstract songs
Third of all Rihanna and Beyonce snap up all these girls songs

That said I will check out her album.
