Let's not put people in a box though. I know plenty of shea butter chicks who have a ratchet side and vice versa. I mean Erykah is seen as the poster child for the incense and "natural" crowd yet she's also hood as fukk lol.
But yeah besides Beyonce and Rihanna it's pretty much Kehlani and Solange lowkey as far as current popular black female singers. I do think the black girl from 5th Harmony has a chance at making some noise if she goes solo though
And it especially may continue to be those two even into the 2020s if Rihanna improves her vocal skills even more and becomes even more of a threat.
the day we do finally get a new mainstream star in black music on the female end my prediction is that its gonna be someone that does Afro Beat..i think that is gonna be the new thing. People in America will be looking for something new after years of doing R&B and rehashing it in different ways with the trap sound..
We will be like....well we have run out of new genres to create so let us bring this movement of AfroBeat over from the motherland here in the states and it will shake the industry up.. Like i said i don't think this will be any time soon and i kind of expect these two to continue in the 2020s unless something happens to either
But when their time is up......then this is what i think will be the new movement. And i hate to say "time is up" but i only say that cause we know women in music don't like to have more than two stars at a time on a mainstream level.
AfroBeat is gonna be the future wave...
Can't. Black woman checking in and we consider Tinashe just as black as Kehlani. Of course I'm just speaking for my friends but we buy music, go to concerts, and have debates for hours on new music. We're also in LA so we hear a slew of stuff first. She (Tinashe) does not have a loyal large BLACK girl fan base. The very best she could do is pull a Zendaya and speak up about her light skinned privilege. That'll gain her some. I know for a fact most of my friends are SZA fans because she is brown skinned woman and has kinky hair. Something that isn't popping enough. I bought the album merely off that and Love Galore
Yeah Tinashe seems like a real nice chick but something is just missing from her. And even if she did have the "it" factor i still wouldn't feel the same pride since she is not fully black...so i can see what you are saying.
At least Rihanna is Black...also was something fresh being a singer that came from a specific island and even if she was lackluster earlier in her career before she blew up always seemed to have an it factor in her.
Tinashe i don't see nothing at all.
I see what you saying about SZA but we also gotta be honest the album wasn't that good.
