Thriller was an album for everybody.
like someone said, it had 9 songs, and was very coherent in you got 3-4 upbeat songs and some soulful smooth tracks... an album can have mass appeal without being a disjointed attempt at hitting every demographic. SZA should have done an r&b album and a pop album

SZA outselling Kendrick when they both took 5 years to drop their albums is crazy
does this count good days, hate you and hit different streams? but even if it doesn't, it's not surprising given the album kendrick dropped, it was really easy to play that once and move on if you were in the camp of "who asked for this weirdo trauma session"

Semi different topic but I wonder if this is going to wake up TDE....or if they simply move from Kendrick being the breadwinner to SZA being the breadwinner. I feel like it started getting obvious they were just living on Kendrick (and SZA), not releasing music, not doing shyt...and eventually Kdot said fukk that and left. With SZA doing over 300k and about to go on a big tour, there really shouldn't be an excuse for Q/Jack Rock/Zay/etc not to drop this year. Not to mention SiR.

I always think about how they had a Christmas toy giveaway that kind of became a big thing, even having Rihanna show up in 2017. They had the roster to create their own festival and didn't do it. Meanwhile Odd Future did, and then Dreamville did. That could have been a lot of money going directly into the pocket of their artists, especially the guys who aren't as popular as Kdot/SZA.
I thought q would've dropped this year. He said he had a full album ready last year and he dropped that single this year but nothing came out of it

Hopefully he'll drop at the beginning of next year. And it needs to be more of a followup to blank face than whatever he was going for on crash talk

Till then imma be bumping that new soulo once it comes out in a few days :whew:

This only a shock to people who don’t go outside

Should be a shock to everyone.
SZA isn't a household name to go be going AWOL for nearly six years and do these sort of numbers.

She has no track record to predict she could move numbers like this.
She practically outselling everyone but Taylor and Drake :damn:

Who is a household name these days, other than the usual suspects?

SZA has a pulse with everyone from HS kids up to 40 year olds.

Go to a party, lounge, concert mix, SZA is being played and the crowd is singing word for word...

all her singles post CTRL did numbers, songs she was featured on were standout tracks on other people's albums, and her snippets had computers putin, i think most people who follow her expected her to do numbers, there's always an appetite for her drops.

The streams that occurred this week for those songs count for the 1st not any of the prior streams

There’s not a single hit record on the Kendrick album. SZA has 3 on here before the album dropped

why is this a good thing? what happened to curating your art/sound? very easy to release two albums, instead of one, that cater to different sounds yet create cohesion vs subjecting people of differing tastes to half an album of bullshyt/lack of cohesion they don't want to hear
My only real complaint is that it doesn't feel..... cohesive?
I hear ya.

but was quick to give Taylor accolades :mjlol:
The Taylor swift praise was nothing more than covert black women and rap hate

You don’t like the pop songs?

Beyonce just dropped after the same amount of time almost, you really telling me you expected SZA to outsell her?
She doubling Summer Walkers sales who has been the RnB queen for this newer generation for example.

all her singles post CTRL did numbers, songs she was featured on were standout tracks on other people's albums, and her snippets had computers putin, i think most people who follow her expected her to do numbers, there's always an appetite for her drops.

So everyone was expecting her to do more numbers than Kendrick then? I'm not saying she doesn't have a fan base to do numbers but I wasn't expecting to this scale.

No hate though I'm happy for her cause TDE always holding music hostage, She getting to fulfill her potential finally.
