Yes....because Nelly has classic, legendary mixtapes that were so huge and in demand that he was able to tour the country off of them before securing the record deal...just off of mixtapes. And Nelly has 3 artists that were signed to him that each sold at least a million records on their solos.

See, this is why trying to force equivalencies is so stupid to me, lol, that shyt never really equates.
Nelly sold more albums than 50 so that covers 50's mixtape success and the success of his artists. Nelly had artists to, they might not have sold as much but it's not like G Unit artists had some large success on their own either past their initial albums.

If he was from Midwest he’d follow Em’s approach with the dark Detroit style production. He might’ve still been successful if he would make music like this.

Anything NY or LA is overhyped and things not from there are marginalized until they are overwhelming simply because those are the largest media markets. It’s extremely obvious to anyone not from those two markets.

This is a diss to 50 and a compliment to Nelly that he was able to overcome this dynamic in a place like St. Louis.

Being Black and Southern, it should be obvious why:

1) Discrimination just for being Black in The South, so you when people who look like you make fun of how you talk and look, yeah it will make you feel a type of way

2) East Coast cats who have no sense of history talk down on The South nobody in the real world is saying any of this clown

We aren't "step-children". Hip Hop may not have started in The South, but it definitely gets its roots from The South.
HIP IS FROM NYC NOT THE SOUTH u clowns needa stop rewriting history nobody in the real world is jacking any of this

So when Nelly was a thing, how many people were out here saying he was one of their favorite rappers?

Who would even say NOW that he was one of their favorites back then?

what Nelly deep cuts do people talk about to this day?

this doesn’t have anything to do with 50 being from NY

You're proving T.i.'s point. If Nelly was from NYC and 50 was from a small overlooked town in Missouri, all those questions you're asking would have different answers.

I don't think it's a diss. He's saying 50 is looked at more of this juggernaut because he's from NY whereas Nelly is just seen as a Pop rapper.
Makes sense.

Lyrically 50 is only a step above nelly. ( nelly was not a super trash lyricist either despite what people say)
