iran is not an air problem, we could shut their air defenses down easily. israel even has air superiority over them. however, china and russia would definitely be a problem for the F-35. lets hope we never see action.

Tactics of combat changed significantly since the A-10 was created and the armed forces are trying to streamline their arsenal.

Making a bunch of planes for specific missions costs more than one or two fighters that can perform well for multiple mission objectives.

All boils down to economics from what I remember while stationed in CA.​

Planes like the A-10 are still needed because of it armament and ground support. No other plane in the military can do what it does for ground support. That is why everytime the government tries to retire it the army throws a fit.

But you are right they are trying to streamline the planes and models. From a money stand point it is easier because you don't have to replace multiple planes. It is also easier when it comes time to approve the sell of the planes to allies.

Yeah Russia and China are developing 5th generation stealth fighters as well. Even the US government is in the early stages of developing 6th generation fighters which will probably come out in the 2030s. They have to stay ahead of our allies and non allies.

I love aviation and dogfighting, but this.

Trying to figure out why they are trying to retire the A-10 for so long...it does what it needs to do.

There was no reason to upgrade the fleet seeing as though dogfighting is really a thing of the past. I can see how they are working out the kinks tho. Itll be awesome in due time
