A lot to address here.
First of, this was always going to be a small class. If we got the two DTs Billing, and Robinson then no one would be saying much. Per recruit it isn't that bad, and we cleaned up across the OL which is where the most help is needed going forward. While this class is small that doesn't make it abysmal. We took a small class in 05 and on paper that class was lackluster at the time, but check out the hit rate on that one.
Five things hurt this program tremendously.
First, was Mack selling his soul to Garrett fukking Gilbert. Its the reason they didn't go all out on Luck, and offered RG3 as a DB. Mack handed the keys to the team to GG as a high school junior, and pretty much gave him the team once Colt got hurt. Remember the MNC versus bama. Instead of going to a running QB(Harris) and running some zone read or a motion offense he stuck with GG despite all the turnovers. Yea we almost one that game but that says more about Bama that year than GG.
Secondly, not cleaning house of his good ole boys sooner than he did. His staff had become lazy. I doubt any of them actually did any recruiting besides looking at the recruiting sites. McWhorter, Kennedy, Davis etc.... all sucked at their jobs
Third, the HCIW debacle that was Will Muschamp. If everything had aligned and Colt had not gotten hurt, we likely win that game and Mack rides out to the sunset. But Colt got hurt and we loss. Mack decided to stay, I'm guessing because he though GG would just pick up where Colt left off. Muchamp said fukk it and jumped at the next opportunity. Which leads me too....
Why in the fukk would Mack think switching to a power running game in Texas, in the fukking Big 12 would be a good idea. Why did he want more of an SEC type defense. Dude turned worse than the SEC fan club on this site and hopped on the SEC's nuts and decided he would turn his team into an SEC molded team. Well Mack you don't fukking play in the SEC week in and out. Took him 3 years to figure this out and now the offense is changing again.
And last of all Mack is just to fukking nice. Juice boxes and orange slices for everyone. He refuses to negative recruit against other schools and at any hint of any type of shady business going on and the recruit is cut off. Times are changing and I'm not saying he should start cheating but he should learn to bend the rules. Either that or start reporting violations and piss everyone off. Crazy thing is, if we wanted to pay to play, we could easily outbid everyone.
With all that said, Texas Longhorn athletics overall is just in fukking shambles, from football on down. Only things successful is mens swimming, golf, and the womans volleyball team. The athletic department needs to be cleaned out, starting with Dodds, and including Mack and Rick Barnes. Yes they built our programs to where they are now, but that doesn't mean those fukks get to burn it down before leaving either.
Oh and Mack will be coaching for his job in that Oklahoma game this year. Him and his entire staff.
