Here’s some Hot Stove tidbits on what is a very cold day in most of the country:
- New York Yankees: Signing Tanaka is of the highest priority for the Yankees and Hal Steinbrenner, writes Ian O’Connor of ESPNNewYork.com. Our Jim Bowden has the Yankees atop his list of the five teams with the best shot of signing Tanaka.
- Ubaldo Jimenez: The Indians would like the price to drop, but Jimenez is still asking for a mulit-year deal worth $14 million per season.
- Arizona Diamondbacks: Unless the D-backs seek a trade, the signing of Tanaka represents the most viable route for landing a front-line starter, reports MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert.
- Homer Bailey: Reds GM Walt Jocketty says it will not be easy to sign Bailey to an extension, so we look at potential suitors if the righthander lands on the trading block.
- Ramon Hernandez: The former All-Star catcher reportedly is set to sign a minor league deal with the Kansas City Royals. The Royals already have three catchers on their 40-man roster, including starter Salvador Perez.
- Jeff Samardzija: In another indication that he wants to remain with the Cubs, Samardzija tells Patrick Mooney of CSNChicago.com that he is unlikely to sign a contract extension if traded.
- Jeff Francoeur: Once a prized prospect, Francoeur is hoping to land a spot as a backup outfielder in Cleveland.
- Chris Capuano: The 35-year-old free agent is still confident he can land a two-year deal even though he made multiple trips to the disabled list last season.
- Stephen Drew: There are conflicting reports as to whether there are medical concerns regarding the free agent shortstop.

Question brehs, so apparently Maddux isn't going in the HOF with a logo on his cap ... says he sees himself as an equal Cub/Brave. Spent 11 in Chicago and 12 in Atlanta I believe.
Am I wrong for thinking he should go in as a Brave? I know he started and ended with the Cubbies, but his Braves accomplishments >>
