Are the Bucks cooked defensively?

The Bucks still don’t match up well vs the Celtics, specially now that Brook Lopez can’t camp in the paint and has to come out and guard Porzingis outside. They can have Giannis go for 40 and keep the bums like Pat/Beasley/Lopez and Middleton at bay. Lillard might score 30 a game but he’s given up 35-40 points to the opposing teams point guard several times this season.

Wednesday game should be interesting.
Porzingis is shooting under 32% from three this month and he's a career 36% shooter from deep.

Boston's whole game plan is spamming threes though. No defense can really contain that. Sometimes they're gonna make a bunch and look unbeatable and other nights they're gonna look rough. They still don't have a backup plan if the threes aren't falling even though they have the pieces to try other things.

The top 3 seeds (BOS, PHI, MIL) are all either a bit flawed, prone to mental midgetry, or historically susceptible to getting packed up by lesser talent (MIA), so I feel it's still kind of a crapshoot at this point. Assuming everyone is healthy (which is almost never the case) i probably "trust" Giannis the most out of all the stars on these 3 teams to show up in the pivotal games.

Of course you can or at least try if you have the wings to do so, which not many teams outside of Boston does. A lot of coaches just do a s job of continuing to allow teams to spam it in hopes that eventually miss. In fact, Milwaukee is just as dependent on the 3 pt shot as Milwaukee and at least they’ve shown they can catch fire from it.

Defense does matter to a certain extent as Denver wouldn’t have won last year had they not flipped the switch during the playoffs when it really mattered after being middle of the pack all season long.

Milwaukee averages five fewer three point attempts per game, shoots a higher percentage and takes over five more free throws a night.

Giannis and Dame are both free throw magnets with both averaging nearly 10 attempts. Nobody on Boston even averages six.

That number is bit skewed as they’ve been on fire these past few games, which has helped fueled their winning streak. Prior to that, they were rather mehhh from it and why they were struggling out the gate.

I called it out in this thread a few days ago.

That makes sense since Dame was dropped in their lap right before training camp. Their whole identity changed.

There’s still the issue of their defense as it’s still going to matter at some point in the playoffs. History has shown that. Even getting league average would work wonders for them just as it did for Denver last year who struggled defensively at times until they made it to the playoffs.

Porzingis still needs to be followed and accounted for even if he’s shooting 20%. With Timelord they would just ignore him the whole time he was out there and Lopez would just camp out in the paint. That’s why Al Horford usually cooks the Bucks. Celtics gonna have a guy who can hit a 3 playing Center most of the game.

They gon get packed up again this year by this “lesser talent” you speak of

The Heat have 2 top 20 players. The Celtics and the Sixers do not.

That's wild. Brown and Tatum really need to attack the rim more wtf

It's 2023, and people still try to ignore the fact that Defense wins championships

Bucks replaced a defensive player for an offensive player and that is a huge problem. For all the attention Warriors get for their high octane offense, they were an amazing defensive team on the years they won the championship. You can not look at a decrease in defense as an afterthought

Bucks have probably a bottom 5 defensive wing rotation and opposing teams are licking their chops exploiting that. Bad perimeter defense actually makes your interior defense worse because easy dribble penetration with no resistance opens the paint up because bigs are rotating like crazy to cover up for mistakes
