Brehs, I got an Airbnb for my wife and toddler over Juneteenth weekend in South Florida. I went back and forth on whether to go Airbnb over hotel but it ultimately came down to a desire to have a separate room that our son could sleep in so we wouldn't have to be in bed at his bedtime.

The Airbnb was dope for the 1st 3 days. It was a 2 minute walk to the beach and they even left us a wagon + shovel/bucket for our son to play with.

BUT ON THE 3RD NIGHT... I saw a fukking rat scurry across the floor. I had to wake my wife up and move her and my toddler to a hotel at 12 am. We saw 3 rats that had been chilling behind the dishwasher/sink. The whole time there was a weird smell by the sink that I chalked up to some food being left in the broken garbage disposal but it turned out to be RAT POOP.

Yeah man, I've had a nearly 10 year run with no issues with Airbnbs but that experience was enough for me to pass on them going forward. At least with hotels I get points and don't have to worry about cleaning up
rats/mice scare me not gonna lie :wow:

Man I always preferred hotels. I never understood why someone would wanna rent someone else's place when you got cleaners, onsite dining, amenities, etc... at a hotel. So it's funny to me to see the whole world pivot to "Wait AirBNB kinda sucks." like uhh yeah it's always sucked imo.

Because initially it was cheaper than hotels.
Airbnb used a similar strategy as Uber -
be cheaper than your competition to gain market share, then raise prices

I prefer hotels, tho I had to get an air bnb for a work trip recently and had a pleasant experience.

They have their niche but I wouldn’t want to do them outside of traveling with a group or something

I like the standardization of hotels, points system, etc.
Yup plus the services they offer like dry cleaning etc…

People starting to realize Airbnb's are overpriced and the fees make it not worth it in most cases. You pay a cleaning fee yet they expect you to wash the dishes, sheets and take out the trash when you check out.

You can get a hotel for cheaper plus hotels have daily room service and free breakfast. Airbnbs are only good for large group trips.
Pay money to go on vacation and be a maid in someone else house brehs

When i travel, and am not looking to stay in a hotel, I always try to look at Sonder first. Essentially, they are a large Airbnb host with their own booking platform.

Like hotels, some of their spots can be a miss, but overall I have had a good experience. Plus now I have some status and they give discounts / wave the cleaning fees.

NYC (but PGH will forever be home)
i get what you saying but most hotels don't have daily room service (especially since covid if you are talking about "housekeeping" and not room service as in meals) and free breakfast lol. most of those that do will have you paying airbnb range

That is a very dated article.

I have stayed in several hotels over the past year (for work and leisure), and I will say that housekeeping has 100% returned since like the mid-2022. Including room service.

i mean..... i too have stayed in various hotels over the past year... and the article coincides :yeshrug:
mind you the article doesn't say, and nor did i say, that every hotel fell under this trend. i think the ones that do offer are up there in price range, not the cheap hotels people are talking about because those cheap ones for sure don't have daily housekeeping and dont even offer room service and dont have a free breakfast worth braggin about lol. idgaf about free coffee and cereal

here's the cleaning policy straight from the hotels mouth tho... it's not the same cleaning as before.

Good, hope those get back into the long term rental market or put up for sale
My old landlords kicked everyone out of our building last year. Got greedy because we are right down the street from the beach. Actually had the audacity to straight up tell me that they’re converting all units to Airbnb and jacking up the off-season rental prices.

Those stupid fukk sticks (who are Manhattan transplants via Covid with no real estate / rental experience just wanting to cash in on the gold rush) couldn’t rent them out for the prices they were charging. They also can’t even rent them out long term now because they fully furnished every apartment and then charged triple what the units were going for just 1 year ago.

fukk them both and I hope they go belly up on their investment.
