I understand that technically, a comeback means it's not a debut album but to come back, one has to be on first no ? I don't think Fugees were mainstream before The Score... :lolbron:

Strictly hip hop, I think it's either Stillmatic or 2001

How? His debut was a commercial flop , and received lukewarm contemporary reviews (he was also dropped from his table). Trap Muzik was the exact opposite. Itmakes perfect sense

You have to be on to fall off. You have to fall off to come back. Trap Muzik wasn’t that serious of an album to begin with compared to some of the shyt others have mentioned :hubie:

Mimi by far commercially. shyt was diamond. Ain't even close.

I think everyone was like :damn: when that intro and beat dropped on We Belong Together. JD laced her.

Hip Hop Wise, yall named most but LL arguably has 2 with Mama Said and Mr Smith (I liked 14 shots personally).

Naw he right. I guess the criteria for this particular thread is to already be a star, fall off, then come back.
In 2001 there was no telling that TI would be what he was when Trap Muzik dropped… Plus in that era you dont get multiple chances like that unless you beat the pavement on your own. He really did that.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Nas was ice cold in 01

he dropped hints that he still had the goods (guest verse on Jada's album, freestyle on Clue tape) but he was not on fire like he was in early to mid 99

It's not that Nas got worse as a rapper, it was a 2 yr break in between solo albums...and a lot changed in that timeframe

Jigga was the king of rap, Ja Rule was selling albums, DMX was selling albums, Jada went solo, Beans and Jada beef captured the streets attention, Nelly was going diamond, Em was going diamond, Dre dropped 2001, Snoop dropped some heat on No Limit, Cash Money came to prominence

It was just a lot happening in rap...and Nas got lost in the shuffle

He restaked his position with Stillmatic though
So. Let's get this straight. In December of 99. He dropped Nastradamus and his singles carried on into 2000. Then. He was on a feature run at the time. The nikka was on Mariah songs, he was on Missy shyt, then he dropped QB Finest in which he that dope feature on Da Bridge 2001. Oochie Wally also dropped. Nas was quiet for not even a full year by the time Jay dissed him. And I'm saying speak for urself cause I deliberately remember arguments I would have about Nas being better than Jay PRE battle. Saying Nas was ICE cold is literal revisionist history kid. He wasn't poppin like Jay or nothing in the clubs n shyt like that. Plus there was a bunch of new kids on the block who was selling even more than Jay like Eminem and Nelly. But I was a DJ at the time my guy. This shyt was and still is being overstated. It's a narrative and it's not true. Fun fact. Stillmatic didn't sell much more than Nastradamus. They both went like 1.5 at the time.
