The Buss family have sold Majority ownership (48%) of the Lakers for $4.8 Billion, Franchise valued at $10 Billion. Family still owns 18% stake.

lakers still have a good product and name cache. they weren't light years from being contenders, but clearly need a reboot around luka. bron needs to retire after his contract is up. new owners probably want to stay even until they can level up. if luka commits to off season regimen and being a laker superstar, could be epic.

They saw the $6.1 Billion the Celtics sold for and said “yeap time to cash out and do something else.” A lot of times when the old man goes and the fortune has to be split up(Jerry Buss had 7 children) some people don’t want their inheritance tied up to a business they’re not 100% involved with.
100% this.

Wondering if Mark Cuban was on to something. He talked about franchise valuations being inflated and that they're only going to flat-line or dip in the next decade or two.

Celtics sold
Mavs sold
Lakers sold

That's a lot of action in big markets...and 2 of those franchises in Lakers/Celtics are THE flagships in your sport.

Thats because there were more broke owners than rich owners. The parity shyt was a welcome side effect and easy justification. The other owners didn't like how Balmver and Lacob were spending.
These owners aren't broke. Yeah certain ones are way above the next in net worth, but these dudes are far from broke. Parity is also here because the superstar era is over with once Bron, Curry, KD, and company hang it up. They'll be stars but all that superstar/face of the league shyt is pretty much over with. The league is pivoting to parity and team play because ain't no Jordan's, Kobe's, Bron's, or Curry's walkin' through that door. The Lakers needed big spending ownership 6-7 years ago. This is a different NBA now. They've eliminated the deep pocket shyt.

Just Win Baby
Reverse thought process my guy..
New owner and new money means win now..
Accept all taxes, etc
Over pay for everything around Luka and LeBron..

Not how the NBA works anymore, they handcuffing you when you're in the aprons. You not even allowed to overpay for shyt. Expect more scrubs around Luka and Bron :blessed:

So if the buss famly only sold 51% of the 66%(still hold 15%) they had, that means Lakers could be worth close to 20B for all of it :ehh:

Old owners are poor compared to new owners. Their kids are going to sell to cash in.
Yup.

Old owners bought wayyyy back for cheap and have seen a huge appreciation of their asset (their franchise).

Some owners like Jerry Jones, are just natural businessmen. Cowboys value has skyrocketed but he's been making moves on the side....INDEPENDENT of the Cowboys shyt. Dude owns so much real estate it's nuts. Same shyt Roger Staubach did after playing for the Cowboys. Made 9-figure deals all over the place including one for $600M before retiring from his real estate company.

If the old school owners don't hustle a ton outside of the sports/franchise lane, they're going to be cash poor. The newer owners come in already billionaires. The old ones gotta cash out to realize those billions.

Would Jordan selling be tossed into that pile too? :jbhmm:
Although if you believe rumors there were other stuff attached to Jordan/Cuban selling. There was some random rumor that Jordan had a gambling debt. With Cuban there was something about the ppl he sold it too, some casino folks, possibly helping Cuban bring gambling/casino to texas or helping Cuban get a foothold in LV or some random shyt like that.

I believe the gambling shyt about Jordan, that's why I left him out, but even if the Adelson's could get Cuban gambling to Texas it'd be insane to sell his entire team on the hopes of something potentially happening going forward. You don't sell your team for a handshake deal.

I'm not sure the old owners think that can live up to this new TV contract....OH! I forgot about the Celtics owner selling too! That's three MAJOR market teams being sold, two of them are legendary franchises, before the TV deal really kicking in is nuts to me. If it comes out that Dolan is selling the Knicks too then something fukked up is happening that no one is talking about.

shyt, some shyt with the Suns may be up if there is truth to the rumors that Ishbia may be playing with monopoly money.

Seems like you would possibly be interested so Ill link the thread, idk if you saw it

This video was posted in the thread and may be worth a watch

It's an hour long but it's well worth the watch imo. Goes in depth on how Ishibia got his wealth and the beef between him and cavs owner Dan Gilbert. Breaks down how Ishbia ran that mortgage company and squeezed Dan from the top spot in mortgage and how all that led to him being able to buy the Suns( and Isaiah Thomas sorta running shyt) and possibly losing the suns. The stuff he says basically leads up to the OP of what the thread is about and that vid was a year ago.

Long story short - The shyt he doing is basically the shyt banks did that caused the recession in 08 when they went under.
