Cliffs:
- Basically all of the engineers at NASA knew that shuttle would explode because of technical problems and did everything to warn upper management to not launch until the issues were corrected.

- NASA management had a conference call with the engineers the night before the launch and pressured them to reverse their original position and agree that the launch was safe

- Management did not care because they were under pressure because they promised congress that space flying would be like commercial airlines and needed the funding

- They tried to cover up the cause for the explosion

Sickest part was a lot of the management were interviewed for this and basically said had they known what they know now, that they still would have done it. One said something to the effect of, "This is how technology moves forward."
They knowingly sacrificed 7 lives for "science" :hhh:

I hate to cosign science, but I'm just trying to take the emotion out of it...

Ppl probably gotta die, for certain advancements to move forward. Its just like the whole Mars colony shyt. Those initial dummies heading up, are probably gonna die...:yeshrug:

Elon Musk said as much, and I think many of these ppl going, have already came to terms with not coming back. Its a necessary evil I guess, for future settlers, to eventually thrive out there. If ppl didn't put their lives on the line, we probably wouldn't have airplanes, vaccines, etc.

Unlike the Mars situation, these ppl probably didn't know they were deemed expendable, and being misled is an issue tho.

They gonna have to do one about Columbia also, I guess they have to wait 30+ years for clearance of these stories. Columbia blew up in 2003 upon reentry and I remember reading that NASA could've used the Atlantis shuttle to rescue the crew before they began reentry because the wing that caused it to blow up was damaged during liftoff 2 weeks prior:snoop:

I guess they rather would risk it instead of being cautious.

You don't purposely put people in faulty shyt you know will fail to advance science.

I'm not disagreeing with that, but if you know something is faulty and will explode and kill people, how is continuing forward advancing? This wasn't something they thought was going to work and just a random freak accident happened. They knew it was faulty already. This was more greed than science

Nah, there's a difference between shyt unexpectedly going wrong, learning from it and making changes to make sure it never happens again and knowing beforehand that shyt will be a disaster, changes can be made to fix it and management going :camby:
