OK, I came into this film with pretty meager expectations. Something mildly entertaining with some decent bits scattered among harmless misfires.
The Family failed to live up to even that.
So the movie essentially opens with the family, in witness protection, moving to a new village and being subjected to prejudice based on them being American. They combat this by acting far more vulgar and violent and offensive than they'd been stereotyped as
Then, because it's not enough to use DeNiro as a "retired" or "snitch" mobster, we need to dwell even more on his career by inserting a truly awful scene where he reviews 'Goodfellas' at some sort of public movie debate....or something.
And I probably missed the explanation to this, but why does no one in this village find it weird that there are suddenly a handful of other Americans living in the homes around "The Family"? Why does no one care that DeNiro's character is seen often with his FBI security and their boss?
Whatever....one of the parts of the film I expected to be entertaining was the kids and their adapting to a new high school. Yeah....this was the second worst part of the film.
The daughter apparently falls in love with some TA, although it feels for the majority of the film like she's faking/playing him. After she convinces this dude to become a pedophile....and he subsequently rejects her...she is prepared to kill herself. Literally none of this storyline felt real. I wish she had killed herself. That would have been interesting.
fukk....I don't even want to talk anymore on this drivel. Only to say that the way DeNiro's old gang finds out about his whereabouts almost made me turn the movie off and cancel my Netflix account.
Garbage.
