Dispatch"s problem is that they didn't release review codes for the entire game up front. Since the game was episodic, most outlets I saw opted to either review once all episodes were out, treat it as a an unscored review in progress until everything was out, or merely review individual episodes with a full review coming later.

Either way, the full product wasn't out in time to make the cutoff.

Also, regarding that Trails game, this is where playing the Metacritic/Opencritic game falls short. Because while the score may be similar, context matters. The game may be very good, but it didn't have the same cultural impact that the other games nominated did.

Like I said it's a JRPG. Just not a mainstream gerne. These awards shows exist as a promotional opportunity to promote viable games and Trails could have got straight 10s and still would not get a nomination. It's the same way Final Fantasy or Persona because they sell millions can now get a token nomination but nobody takes them seriously as possible winners.

Trails didn't even get a nomination for best Rpg and Avowed a game that's like an 80 did.

It's the same way Final Fantasy or Persona because they sell millions can now get a token nomination but nobody takes them seriously as possible winners.

If you're unwilling to accept the context that Expedition 33 meant more to a wider set of people, primarily because of elements of the game aside from just being a turn based party RPG at its core, I'm not sure what to tell you.

If we went solely off of excellent reviews, there's usually some random 4X game that should get nominated every year, but their range is limited by design, since the ideal customer is a very specific one.

I actually watched Until Dawn back in October. It's a shytty movie, but as far as random Halloween bullshyt, it's actually not a terrible watch.

But let's be real, all other nominees are just here to lose to Minecraft. You're going to sit through five minutes of show dedicated to giving Jack Black yet another opportunity to do the Jack Black shtick in an awkward segment meant to promote the second movie, and you're gonna like it.

You can call me a JRPG snob if you want but an actual traditional style JRPG that reviews well from Japanese developers will never win a GOTY award and at this point unless it's a multi-million seller won't even get a token nomination regardless of how good it is.

It's like the Grammys. I listen to rap and the majority of rap albums that get nominated don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning album of the year. In the last 35 years 2 hip hip artist have won album of the year. Am I a bitter rap snob for pointing that out?

Even beyond GOTY you honestly expect me to believe for RPG of the year that a game the critics game an 80 in Avowed deserves a nomination over Trails in the Sky 1st which is an 88-90?

i've fallen out with gaming. will i like E33 if i don't usually play RPGs? I tried to play elden ring and it didnt grab me.
